Introduction
When was the last time you played video games on a computer that had integrated Intel graphics? I can’t remember either. Intel integrated graphics are not nearly as bad as they once were. The most recent addition to its lineup, the Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD, is part of the Centrino 2 platform and is claimed to be the best-performing Intel graphics to date. So we ask, can it play modern games like Call of Duty 4 and Unreal Tournament III? Join us as we give the 4500MHD a full gaming performance evaluation.
Technical Background & Features
The full technical specifications of the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD, courtesy of TechPowerUp’s GPU-Z application, are as follows:
The card has no dedicated memory of its own; it instead borrows memory from the computer’s main memory (RAM) for graphics use. During normal usage it will draw a negligible amount, and while gaming, the 4500MHD will borrow what it needs to run the game but no more. The 4500MHD will give up memory if the system requires it.
The 4500MHD supports Microsoft’s DirectX 10 technology, which is a Windows Vista-only technology and will power future games. In addition to DirectX 10, the 4500MHD also supports Windows Vista’s ‘Aero’ graphical interface.
Video playback is a key focus of the 4500MHD. It supports Intel Clear Video technology, which allows the 4500MHD to decode Blu-ray and 1080p high-definition video.
In addition to high-definition video playback, Clear Video technology allows the 4500MHD to connect to a variety of external displays. High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) and the latest monitor connection, DisplayPort, are both supported. The 4500MHD also supports traditional DVI-D and VGA monitor connections.
Test System Setup
Our test notebook computer is configured as follows:
| Make/Model | Acer/Aspire 5735-4744 |
| Processor | Intel Pentium Dual-Core T3200 |
| Chipset | Intel GL40 |
| RAM | 2GB DDR2-667 |
| Hard Drive | Western Digital WD1600BEVT (160GB) |
| Graphics Card | Intel GMA 4500MHD |
| Operating System | Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit w/SP1 |
We are using the latest Intel video drivers, v15.12.1.1608, from Intel’s website.
Benchmarks
We will run a series of synthetic benchmarks and real-life games on the test system to explore the 4500MHD’s capabilities.
Synthetic Benchmarks
The two benchmarks below are synthetic, as in, they are not real-world applications. Instead, they provide numbers that allow comparisons to other systems.
Windows Experience Index (WEI)
Let’s start with Windows Vista’s built-in benchmark, Windows Experience Index (WEI).
WEI rates a computer on a scale up to 5.9, with 5.9 being the highest. The Intel 4500MHD holds back our test system, only producing a score of 3.5 in both the Graphics and Gaming Graphics tests, and thus bringing the entire computer’s score down to 3.5. The relatively low score of 3.5 does not inspire confidence in the 4500MHD, but WEI is only a synthetic benchmark and not indicative of real-world performance.
3DMark06
This is a 3D benchmark by Futuremark; it runs through a series of graphically-intense scenes and scores the graphics card based on how well it performed.
A typical gaming notebook with a mid-level dedicated video card (an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 or Nvidia GeForce 9600M GT) will score 3,500 to 5,000 points in this benchmark. 745 marks is obviously less than that, but again remember that 3DMark06 is a synthetic benchmark.
Real-World Benchmarks
All of the games below were benchmarked using FRAPS unless otherwise noted. The minimum frames per second (FPS) needed for fluid ‘playable’ gameplay is 30; anything less than that will result in a choppy experience and is not considered playable.
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Call of Duty 4 is one of the most popular online first-person shooters available today. Introduced in 2007, it is still a challenge for modern graphics cards. We patched the game to v1.7 and benchmarked at the following settings:

Benchmark results:
Even at very low settings and resolution, the 4500MHD can only produce half the framerate that is needed for fluid gameplay. 15 FPS on average is simply not enough.
Verdict: Unplayable
Unreal Tournament III
Unreal Tournament III is a popular online first-person shooter based on the Unreal III engine. The Unreal III engine is used in many modern games such as Fallout 3. We benchmarked the 1.5 version of Unreal Tournament III using the following settings and an 800×600 resolution:
Benchmark results:
The 4500MHD graphics solution just can’t keep up in Unreal Tournament III either, producing barely 12 FPS. I did manage to get one kill with the shock rifle while benchmarking – I suppose that counts for something!
Verdict: Unplayable
Left 4 Dead
Left 4 Dead is a new first-person shooter from Steam. A multiplayer-only game, in Left 4 Dead a team of four players must make it through a zombie-infested world to an extraction point. We benchmarked at the following settings:
Benchmark results:
While inside buildings the game is actually playable; unfortunately, going outside brings the framerate down into the low teens.
Verdict: Unplayable
F.E.A.R. 2 Demo
First Encounter Assault Recon (F.E.A.R) 2 by Monolith Productions is the sequel to the first F.E.A.R. We benchmarked at the following settings, using an 800×600 resolution:
Benchmark results:
Like Left 4 Dead, while indoors the game is actually playable in some instances, however in large areas and outdoors, the framerate plummets into the single digits.
Verdict: Unplayable
Counter-Strike: Source
We have to throw the Intel 4500MHD a bone here – Counter-Strike: Source is much older than the modern games in this article. We benchmarked at a resolution of 1024×768 with all high settings, save for anti-aliasing and antistrophic filtering.
Benchmark results:
Finally! With an average of over 31 FPS, we finally found a game the 4500MHD could play without any hitches.
Verdict: Playable
Conclusion
Let’s get something straight – the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD is not designed to play games. Its purpose is to provide a low-cost, low-power integrated graphics solution that supports video playback and external monitor connections. While Intel continues to improve the performance of its integrated graphics solutions, its latest 4500MHD offering still is not suitable for gaming. Even at very low settings, the 4500MHD cannot produce the performance necessary for enjoyable gameplay in modern games – older ones like Counter-Strike: Source, yes, but newer ones like Left 4 Dead, definitely not. Gamers looking for a gaming notebook will need to look for a model that has a graphics solution like Nvidia’s GeForce 9600M GT. However, for everything else other than games (check out meccabingo), the 4500MHD isn’t a bad choice.

hello,
i’ve read your review on Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD.
i unfortunately i have a laptop with this card.
so can you tell me the names of the games that can be played normally on my laptop.
my laptop specifications:
3 GB ram
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD
INTEL CORE 2 DUO 2.1GHz.
September 7th, 2009 at 3:58 pm
Well, as you can see in this article, most newer games are out of the question. You can play Counter-Strike: Source, World of Warcraft on lower settings, and generally older games (pre 2006). However to give you the best answer I need to know what games you are interested in.
September 9th, 2009 at 3:46 am
What about NFS series?
September 9th, 2009 at 10:07 am
you can play:
Underground 2 ~ med-high no lags
Most Wanted: Black Edition ~ med bit choppy
Carbon ~ med bit choppy
Prostreet ~ choppy a lil at LOW
Undercover ~ choppy a lil at LOW also
you can run them but there would be a downtime when the environment gets big.
hope that helps
~ thanks for the review! helped me also

Would I be able to run Warhammer: Dawn of War II?
I have an HP Pavilion dv6-1245dx
2.10 GHz Intel Core2 Duo Processor T6500
4 GB RAM
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD

thanks kaaru
September 10th, 2009 at 8:51 am
cram – unfortunately you won’t be able to run Dawn of War II, it is a fairly demanding game. You need a GeForce 6600 or ATI Radeon X1600 with at least 128MB of video memory . . . and the GMA 4500MHD is not nearly as strong as those cards.

September 10th, 2009 at 12:04 pm
Tarun,
Maya or 3ds will run just fine, or at least the initial wireframe and modeling part of it. Should export a high definition animation, you computer may have trouble playing it back. New versions of these programs will likely take advantage of you GPUs processing power. Not having one of these new GPUs would only result in slower render times because only your CPU will be doing the rendering. It would seem that the rest of your system easily meets the requirements for either of those programs.
As for the previous user who asked about Dawn of War II. At the moment I would not recommend buying the game, even though your computer may meet the minimum system requirements. Intel Cards even if they have enough RAM are barley fast enough to run this game even on the lowest settings. Even if you do load the game, you will likely get kicked from multiplayer matches for lagging. However, I do recall that relic was working with Intel on creating a driver that would provide increased performance and allow people with these cards to play. I have not herd any more on this matter, but I would check to see if Intel or Relic recommends has any new drivers.

The games that will run best on this series of card or going to be games with widely used and refined engines such as HL2’s source. Games made pre 2004 are likely to work as well. More recent games, if using a well known engine (aside from Crytek’s Cry 2 Engine) may also run well. Widely used engines are going to be better optimized than engines designed for just one game. Personally I would recommend purchasing HL 2 and then adding on one of the countless mods.

hi,
about to buy lenovo thinkpad SL300,
2.10 GHz Intel Core2 Duo Processor T6570
2 GB RAM
intel GMA 4500HD
i’m not that into gaming, but need it to watch movies. would like to know if it will run 720/1080p hd movies fluently?
should i get more RAM to be safe?
will a slower intel core2 2.0 GHz of the SL400 will do the work too?
thanx
September 10th, 2009 at 2:19 pm
Yes, if you look in the first section of the article you will see that GPU has been almost solely designed for for entertainment. However, in my personal opinion the quality of playback will depend on the format of the video. The processing speed and RAM (beyond 2 GB anyway) will have very little effect on the play back when compared to the GPU. As long as you have a core 2 duo, you should be fine. I have managed to play back 1080p MKV files on my MacBook Pro which only has a core duo and 1 .5 GB RAM. Although it has a dedicated GPU, the x1600m 128MB is hardly more powerful than the current 4500MHD. In short, you should certainly be able to play back all 720p videos, but some 1080p videos depending on the encoding may give you problems.
Additionally, we can help you much more with your questions and problems if you post in our forums.

Hi,
Can you play dead space or assassins creed on a gma 4500mhd
September 12th, 2009 at 2:17 pm
hey all, I bought a dell studio 17
Intel Core2 Duo mobile processor T6400 2.0ghz
4GB DDR2 memory
320GB HD
and the 4500MHD chipset
I have heard from dell that i can buy a graphics card separately and sauder it in my self. my question is… do you know if i can put any graphics card in the laptop? or does it have to be special? thanks
September 12th, 2009 at 2:25 pm
hi, I’ve been told that the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD has a problem with crashing computers a lot, I’ve also been told that once this happens there’s is nothing that can be done to fix it. let me know what you find out. thanks.
September 13th, 2009 at 6:22 am
Thanks for all this.
i thought that my card is as worst as nothing.
September 13th, 2009 at 1:57 pm
Gagan – we need a bit more information on what you are asking. I recommend posting in our forums where more people will see what you are writing: http://pcgamingcorner.com/forum/
jack – unfortunately no, Assassin’s Creed and Dead Space will not work on the GMA 4500MHD. Both are very graphically demanding and it simply does not have the power.
josh – you can’t replace the graphics card in your Dell Studio 17 because the GMA 4500MHYD is literally part of the motherboard . . . which means that you would need to replace basically the entire inside of the computer to get a better card.
Jake – I have not experienced any crashing issues with my GMA 4500MHD. And there is something you can do if you are having issues. Go over to Intel’s site here: http://tinyurl.com/kjh88f
Select your Operating System in the center pane and then select the Drivers item in the right pane and then look in the results for “Intel Graphics Media Accelerator Driver”. That’s what you should download to update your drivers. Let me know if you need more info.
siddharth – not entirely true – you can play Counter-Strike.
Best LAN party game of all time.

hey, can the Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD run team fortress 2?
September 14th, 2009 at 4:51 pm
Given that it will run CS:S on nearly all high settings, the answer is yes. However, becuase Team Fortress has a more unique graphic style and more things happening in the frame i.e explosions, you will have to turn down the settings a bit. You should be able to get by with mostly medium settings. If you turn down shadows and reflections along with no AA and AF, you may be able to squeak by with the model settings on high. This will vary from machine to machine though. In addition, I would not run the game higher than 1333×768 on that card, although 1440×900 may work as well. All in all it should run fine, but don’t expect it to look amazing.
September 15th, 2009 at 8:55 am
Buying a computer for my son who want to play games like Sims and Spore. hopeing to spend <1K. Was thinking of a Dell Inspiron but the graphics card is Graphic Media Accelerator 4500 MHD – will this be enough or do you have better recommendation?
September 15th, 2009 at 2:06 pm
i know about that, but i talked to dell and they said that they sauder in there graphics cards as an extra thing (they do not replace the chipset) here is the link: (i hope thats not against any rules)
http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?oc=dncwsa1&c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&kc=laptop_studio_17
if you go to the “vidio card” options there is a ATI modility radeon HD 3650. when i talked to dell a guy told me that i could call dell spare parts. and have them send me the graphics card seperately. and then i could sauder it in once i got it.
so my question is…. is my only option the 3650 HD graphics card? or can i put any graphics card in?
September 15th, 2009 at 2:34 pm
First off soldering in your own video card is one risky operation, be forewarned. While I am not accusing you of being wrong, I am not sure the dell rep knew what he was talking about if he told you could add this card. Generally these cards are built into the motherboard. FOr example the radeon x1600 in my laptop is built into the motherboard leaving no way to separate it. That being said perhaps some can be soldered into place should the chipset offer a compatible PCI Express Lane, as I am unaware of that exact parts that are used in those particular laptops. I would call one more time before you order that card and confirm that it is in fact possible to do what you are trying to do.
As for can you just get any card?
Probably not. Each of these cards is most likely proprietary in some shape or form that allows it to fit into that slot inside your computer and be cooled properly. You most certainly can not get whatever card you want, as the power requirements will vary across the board which your PCI bus may not support it. In addition, cards range in size and the cooling may be inadequate for a different card. Again I would double check with dell before proceeding, most of the time GPU’s are built into the chipsets. Again I am not telling you that you are wrong, but I am telling you that the Dell guy may be wrong. I would also make sure that the computer has room to fit the card inside and if there is an open port on the outside for the external DVI connector.
September 15th, 2009 at 5:52 pm
will the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD work for the new Need for Speed Shift? or will a different graphics card be needed? i already have the higher then what is needed in everything else.
thank you.
September 16th, 2009 at 8:53 am
stuff – consider the Dell Studio 15; customize it and opt for the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570, it will be enough for newer games and will provide a satisfactory gaming experience. It should easily come in under $1k. Look for Dell coupons to bring the price down – check http://www.notebooreview.com/
Jake – the GMA 4500MHD will definitely not be able to play Need for Speed: Shift. The game requires a minimum of an Nvidia GeForce 7800 or ATI Radeon X1800XT with 256MB of dedicated memory; the GMA 4500MHD is far less powerful.
September 16th, 2009 at 9:57 pm
is titan quest playable using the 4500mhd?
September 17th, 2009 at 12:34 am
Hey, thanks for the review. I was a little disappointed that you didn’t include less taxing games aside from CS Source, because not being able to play CoD4, L4D, etc. was expected. I would’ve liked to have seen tests done with the original Call of Duty, maybe Sins of a Solar Empire, Spore, etc.
But I digress. I have a question about how it borrows memory from the system’s RAM. If you were to upgrade the RAM to 4GB, wouldn’t that also allow more games to be played at higher settings? I don’t know how this works at all, so a detailed answer would be much appreciated.
Thanks again for the review,
Matt
September 17th, 2009 at 12:39 am
I also have one more question if you don’t mind. I’m looking at buying one of these:
http://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-AS1410-8414-11-6-Inch-Sapphire/dp/B002LEXA64/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1253164689&sr=1-1#screen
It only has a 1.4 processor, but the description says it’s powerful. Would this still be able to play CSSource, TF2, etc.? I watched a video of it playing Doom3 at high settings at 12 FPS, not sure how it would fare other than that though. You’d think this would be more well documented. Oh well.
September 17th, 2009 at 8:52 am
The Memory sharing works on an on-demmand basis, if the GPU needs more memory, it will barrow more RAM from the computer. Browsing the web and using other basic applications will only likely use up 32MB-64MB of Ram because there is little need for more. Turn on a game however, and the GPU will likely request its entire allotment. This varies from card to card and usually between 256 and 512 MB depending on the model.
Adding more memory is probably going to help speed up your computer, but not by any noticeable amount during gaming unless your upgrading from under 2GB. By adding more memory you will allow your computer to do more at once, but the limitation regarding games will almost always be this relatively weak chipset and not the amount of system memory you have. However, aside from gaming, assuming that you are running an OS that can see 4GB (Vista or XP 64bit), general computing and system reliability may be improved from upgrading(When I say reliability I mean less programs slowing down due to a lack of RAM).
The computer you listed above should easily be able to play both of those games. While it is only a single core processor, it is not a scaled back Celeron or atom processor. Additionally both the CS:S and TF2 use the source engine which is high efficient. However, your going to be limited when it comes to new games that require more than core, even if your the Intel card meets the requirements. Some games simply need two cores in order to process everything properly. Just be weary of the system requirements and make sure the game does not specify core 2 DUO(dual core machines) as a minimum requirement.
September 17th, 2009 at 9:02 am
Matt – even if the GMA 4500MHD had unlimited memory, it would not make a significant performance difference because in the end, your framerate is still going to come down to processing power and that is what the GMA 4500MHD severely lacks.
If I get my hands on another notebook with integrated Intel graphics, I’ll be sure to do a follow-up review with the same games I did in this review plus many more. This is our most popular article at the moment.
September 18th, 2009 at 4:29 am
Thank you very much for the detailed answers, Lee and Charles. I ordered that netbook this morning and can’t wait to start playing Source games on it. I am also going to try Far Cry, Call of Duty, and Max Payne 2 on it and uploading my tests to youtube.
Thanks again for the help.

Can GTA 4 be played on my laptop?
My laptop specifications:
HP Pavilion dv5
Procesor Intel Core 2 Duo CPU 2 GHz
4 GB ram
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500 MHD
64-bit Operating System
September 18th, 2009 at 1:42 pm
As it is even high end systems have trouble with this game. While your processor and RAM are sufficient, this GPU simply doesn’t have the power to play GTA4. While patches have since made the game run respectably on higher end machines, the game would most likely look horrible and run poorly if played on a computer using this card.
I feel the need to add that technically it is possible to play the game on your computer, because you meet the system requirements(Including the GPU). However, the Intel Integrated cards were never meant for gaming. You may be able to play if you chose to purchase the game but as I mentioned it would not look pretty. If your ok with brick sized pixels and a less than stellar frame rate then you may be able to get by. I wont say that it isn’t possible to play this game on your computer, just that I(me personally) wouldn’t waste my money trying.

Will Intel GMA 4500MHD play Halo 2 because Halo: Combat Evolved works? tell me as soon as anyone can plz
September 18th, 2009 at 8:26 pm
If anyone has a question about if a game can run on this card, I suggest searching for it in youtube.
Ex:
“Halo 2 gma 4500mhd”
That should do the trick.
September 18th, 2009 at 8:28 pm
First off everyone should refer to this before asking questions, as it lists all the supported games:
http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/intelgm45/sb/CS-029450.htm#a
Now if your game isn’t on the list that doesn’t mean it can’t be played.
Halo 2 For Vista is going to be another case of it will run, but its not going to look good. My guess is that you would be disappointed with the results your computer will give you. However, there are a lot of mods and tweaks for this game that can help improve frame rates. It is beyond my knowledge of which mods to look for or how much of an improvement they will make, but my suspicion is that you can find out more about improving your frame rate on any H2V forum.
September 18th, 2009 at 8:57 pm
what if the list doesn’t show it cuz on youtube, people play things like crysis nd cod 4
September 18th, 2009 at 9:15 pm
Again you can play these games, they just are not going to look great or preform well. Almost all of these games have mods that adjust screen resolution and rendering settings to make the games playable.
September 18th, 2009 at 9:24 pm
thx, but will it work well and not lag as long as resolution is lowered a little?
September 18th, 2009 at 9:26 pm
will halo 2 work as well as halo 2?
September 18th, 2009 at 9:28 pm
Because we didn’t test that game specifically, I dont want to to give you a definitive answer. My suspicion is that if you had the settings on the lowest possible, it may be playable. But that is just a guess. The card has higher specs than the cards listed as the minimum system requirements, but because they are integrated they don’t have the same feature sets that gaming cards do, meaning that the games simply will not perform well. I would go poke around a forum or two relating to the game you would want and see if anyone there has tried it specifically and had any luck. I wish I could help you more.
September 18th, 2009 at 9:32 pm
well, what really good games could i play then without lag?
September 18th, 2009 at 10:25 pm
Hello Lee,I hope you are fine !!!
I need an advise form you. I bought a laptop.
Toshiba A505 SP6986 Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T6500 2.1GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB
RAM: 4GB DDR2 800MHz
HARDRIVE: 320GB (5400 RPM) Serial ATA
Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD with 128MB-1759MB
I have tried to run FIFA 09. I could do it, but sometimes when I start a new match the screen gets black. I do not why, Do you think that it is a problem of the game or the video card ?.
September 18th, 2009 at 10:49 pm
Any source games (except L4d) are always an option. Any on that Intel list are obviously an option. Is there any genre in particular that you like? It seems like you are leaning towards FPS. Combat Arms may run well(its free too).
September 18th, 2009 at 10:52 pm
Gaston:
It is most likely the video card. You could try updating the drivers to the newest version. If you have Vista it will do this automatically in general. You could also look on Intel’s site for newer or beta drivers. Try lowering the settings a little more, that may help. In addition if you have other programs open when you are trying to run the game it may limit the memory the the game can access, make sure you close all open programs before running the game.
September 20th, 2009 at 2:19 pm
will i be able to play pcsx2 and tekken 5 with this?
September 20th, 2009 at 10:14 pm
Does anyone know if the Intel 4500 gpu uses system memory above the 3.12 gb limit Vista imposes on a 32 bit system with 4gb system memory or does it share system memory from the available total physical memory. If it does use system ram above the 3.12 gb limit then it would be beneficial to increase from 3gb to 4gb.
September 21st, 2009 at 1:52 pm
i just bought a compaq CQ60-417DX would i be able to play madden 08 or nba live 08? thanx
September 21st, 2009 at 3:16 pm
Keith – it shares from the available memory (the 3.12GB, in your case). The memory addresses between 3.12GB – 4GB are already allocated to other system resources; only the available memory addresses (the 3.12GB) are available to the integrated GPU, otherwise it would not be able to dynamically share memory.
Therefore there is not much of a point having 4GB of RAM installed in a 32-bit system. A memory upgrade is really only going to improve your performance if you are running out of memory as it is.
September 22nd, 2009 at 1:33 am
Will Windows 7 32 bit be able to use 4GB of RAM? Because I am upgrading my Asus 1410 with 4GB of RAM.
One more thing, is 4GB of RAM with Vista 32 Bit an improvement over 3GB of RAM? Or the exact same thing? Thank you.

Matt – Windows 7 32-bit will support 4GB of RAM though you will not have access to all 4GB; it is simply a limitation of 32-bit hardware. Expect to see somewhere around 3.0-3.3GB of RAM. It is the same case with Vista 32-bit; even if you have 4GB, you will only be able to see just above 4GB. Therefore, there is not much of a point to having 4GB of RAM in a 32-bit system.
Jay S – the GMA 4500MHD should definitely be able to play Madden NFL 2008 and NBA Live 2008.
xeptac – pcsx2 is going to be a yes/no. While the GMA 4500MHD meets the minimum requirements it is well under the recommended (GeForce 8600GT). No guarantees there.
September 24th, 2009 at 12:45 am
Back on the 4 gb system in a 32 bit system question. Since Vista caps System RAM at 3.12 gb on a machine with 4gb installed and part of the reserved RAM over 3.12 gb is reserved for the VRAM on a discreet video card wouldn’t it make sense to allocate some of the shared System RAM needed by the 4500MHD to the address space above 3.12 gb. Just makes sense to me
Of course the dynamic allocation of RAM using this scenario might have to be re-factored. By the way the 3.12 figure is a hard limit imposed by Microsoft. You might get less available memory but you won’t get more. XP is a different story as you will get everything left to address System RAM after the vid card and everything on the PCI bus are done taking their share.
September 24th, 2009 at 9:30 am
Keith – it would be nice if the GMA 4500MHD could share the memory above 3.12GB, but it just doesn’t work that way. The memory addresses above 3.12GB are already assigned to other system resources, and therefore that memory could not be dynamically allocated to the GMA 4500MHD. It shares out of the available 3.12GB only. Most of the time it is only sharing 32MB or less so it is really insignificant.

A few gaming/CAD questions. Is a Dell Studio 17, 320GB HD, 4GB RAM, Dual Core (2.1 GHz) Processor, with the GMA 4500MHD capable of running:
#1 Solidworks (3D-CAD)
#2 Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
#3 Halflife 2
#4 NFS Underground 2
Will any of these programs/games struggle drastically/ not run at all? please respond

Thanks for this review. I was shopping for a notebook and had to decide whether to spend a few more dollars for a dedicated GPU, and it looks like that’s the way I should go.

September 26th, 2009 at 7:57 pm
Thanks Charles. One more question. I’m getting the free upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium, and I was wondering if when I install that I’ll have the option to get the 64 bit version?
September 26th, 2009 at 10:04 pm
Hey Matt – there are 32- and 64-bit versions of Windows 7. Make sure you buy the version you want. There are different DVDs for the 32- and 64-bit versions.
Are you a student? You can get Windows 7 for $29.99:
http://www.win741.com/
September 27th, 2009 at 2:53 am
I am a student, and I’ve looked into that before, but it’s only the upgrade version which I am already getting.
Another question. I have a MacBook Pro (which has XP Home Edition on a Boot Camp partition) and an Acer netbook (which has Vista). When my Windows 7 upgrade comes in the mail, will I be able to install it on my MacBook Pro through Boot Camp? I wouldn’t ask this question if it was the full 7 version, but it is only the upgrade. Also how many times can I use the 7 upgrade disc? Thanks again!
September 27th, 2009 at 9:20 am
I currently have this on my laptop and was curious to know if it would work if the NFS group that is out and if not what you would recommend getting as a graphics and/or video card. Thanks for you help.

Im sorry here is the specs for my laptop
it has the graphics card stated above
500 gb hard drive
6gb ram
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor
6144 mb ddr2 sdram
8x dvd+-RW
thanks for any assistance. The game I am attemtping to play is NFS shift the newest out.
September 28th, 2009 at 1:55 am
matt, you can use the disc as many times as you want, as long as you don’t distribute the code to others.
September 28th, 2009 at 2:30 am
I am looking at a Toshiba system which uses this IGP as well. I am more of a RTS player. So high frame rates do not matter to me as much (I dont think atleast). How do RTS games fare on this component such as Warhammer (not DoW2), Rise of Nations (I and II), Homeworld II, X2: The Threat and/or X3: The Reunion?
With that in mind, I am primarily looking for a laptop for business uses (connecting to a VPN via PPTP, using putty/ssh, web browsing, remote control software, etc). I would like to play games but I do not want it to be my primary focus (although it would be a benefit). I have a desktop system at home (Q6600 Quadcore 2.4GHZ). My choices are either the AMD Turion X2 or Intel C2D Centrio. I prefer the CD2 because of the performance and more so better battery life. If the AMD were not being compared to the Intel CPU’s, it would be the obvious choice (aside from the highter power consumption with AMD’s).
Thanks!
September 28th, 2009 at 3:52 pm
There’s no limit on how many times you can use the upgrade disc AFAIK though you can only use one key per installation. There shouldn’t be any issues using it with a MBP through boot camp.
September 28th, 2009 at 10:48 pm
Alright, thanks. Someone else told me that you can call up Microsoft, and they’ll give you more product keys for more installations.

Hi guys, im using Vaio SR-12G with 2 GB DDR2
these are the games playable on my laptop :
Starwars Battlefront 1 & 2
GTA San Andreas
World in Conflict
Soldier of Fortune : Payback
and CoD Modern Warfare.. barely..
unfortunately the last 3 games are not on the highest graphic settings, first i set in on medium graphics quality then i customize it by disabling and adding graphic features to my accord (it took few attempts to get the right setting tho)..
Cheers!

I have an HP Pavilion dv6-1245dx, 2.10 GHz Intel Core2 Duo Processor T6500, 4 GB RAM, Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD. My question is simple (ya, right), after reading all the previous entries, I want the best graphics card that this computer can handle (regardless of price but mindful of more changes to other components). One suggestion was a “GeForce 6600 or ATI Radeon X1600 with at least 128MB of video memory” but other suggestions were based on the requirements of the game in question – “The game requires a minimum of an Nvidia GeForce 7800 or ATI Radeon X1800XT with 256MB of dedicated memory; the GMA 4500MHD is far less powerful.”
So how far can I go AND still will that be enough to feed hardware hogs like Crysis. Recommended System Requirements System: Dual-core CPU (Athlon X2/Pentium D) or equivalent – strike one right there, RAM: 2048 MB – ball 1, Hard Drive Space: 6000 MB – ball 2, Graphics: Nvidia 7800GTX/ATI X1800XT – that’s the next pitch but if there a lesser or more powerful option; I’ll consider it and go by price. Thanks.

Im looking to get the Lenovo x200 Tablet,
just want to know how smooth to run programs like Autodesk 3ds max (no rendering of cuz), autocad, adobe photoshop CS4,
i dont play game on the laptop, but running tons extreme programs..
will it be better to install the 32 bit or 64 bit window..the max RAM can install is 4 gb, if its 8 GB i will install 64 bit window..
October 12th, 2009 at 8:07 pm
Both of those programs will be fine as they don’t require a good gpu unless your going to do some high resolution play back.
I would always recommend going 64 bit if possible. The difference is rather large assuming the applications themselves can run in 64 bit mode. A 64 bit OS addresses the RAM differently allowing the OS not only to see more RAM but go to the HD less often speeding up any 64 bit process. Even if I only had 4GB of ram… which I do actually, I would still install 64 bit.
However, there is one small catch. Check all your devices and make sure they have 64bit driver support as most 64bit OS’s have special driver requirements.

rky:
Keep in mind you want to get the most powerful processor available to you if you want to run those programs as fast as possible. I should have mentioned this before. All of the programs you listed are processor dependent, meaning the faster the processor the faster these programs will run (RAM helps too, especially with PS). Regardless any dual core processor will be just fine as the requirements for 3ds max are only:
Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional x64 or Microsoft® Windows® Vista 64 bit (Business, Premium, or Ultimate)
Intel® EM64T, AMD Athlon® 64 or higher, AMD Opteron® processor
1 GB RAM (4 GB recommended)
1 GB swap space (2 GB recommended)
Direct3D 10, Direct3D 9, or OpenGL-capable graphics card, 128 MB
Three-button mouse with mouse driver software
2 GB hard disk space
DVD-ROM drive
Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 or higher
DirectX 9.0c* (required), OpenGL (optional)
and PS is only:
1.8GHz or faster processor
Microsoft® Windows® XP with Service Pack 2 (Service Pack 3 recommended) or Windows Vista® Home Premium, Business, Ultimate, or Enterprise with Service Pack 1 (certified for 32-bit Windows XP and 32-bit and 64-bit Windows Vista)
512MB of RAM (1GB recommended)
1GB of available hard-disk space for installation; additional free space required during installation (cannot install on flash-based storage devices)
1,024×768 display (1,280×800 recommended) with 16-bit video card
Some GPU-accelerated features require graphics support for Shader Model 3.0 and OpenGL 2.0
DVD-ROM drive
QuickTime 7.2 software required for multimedia features
Broadband Internet connection required for online services*

I am using Samsung R510 Laptop… With this Intel GMA card, 3 GB RAM, Intel Core 2 Duo Can Need for Speed Shift work on this laptop?
October 18th, 2009 at 11:18 am
Hi William – unfortunately no, the GMA 4500MHD will not be able to play NFS: Shift. The game requires a 256MB video card, ATI X1800XT or GeForce 7800GT or better; both of those cards are way more powerful than the GMA 4500MHD. Everything else in your computer is fine for gaming except for the video card.
October 19th, 2009 at 3:28 pm
Thank you for this review.
Would I be able to play Cabal Online on this video card?
The computer spec (I am thinking to buy):
Acer Aspire AS5735-6155 Notebook
Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 2.0GHz,
4GB DDR2, 320GB HDD,
Intel GMA 4500MHD
October 19th, 2009 at 11:22 pm
Ryan – that Gateway laptop is not going to be any different performance-wise from your HP. What is your budget for a new notebook? Do you want to play games on it?
Alex – you *should* be able to play Cabal Online. The game needs a 1.4GHz Pentium 4 (lolz) and an Nvidia GeForce 6600GT. The Core 2 Duo T6600 CPU is easily powerful enough, and the 4500MHD should be as well.
If at all possible, try to get something with dedicated graphics. Take a look at the ASUS K-series notebooks; most of them come with a dedicated ATI or Nvidia graphics card.

To be honest, the 9400m is only marginally stronger. I wouldn’t hesitate to get it as long as the price was the same as a comparable notebook with an integrated chipset. The simplest way to say this is that you will be able to play most of the games the integrated card can’t (Not all games) but at very low settings.
The 9400m is actually an integrated card with a higher clock. The only true advantage to these is HD video play back which the integrated intel does just fine in most cases. It is true however, that this card will allow you to play more games than the intel chipset, just not on high settings.
To anyone looking for a budget gaming laptop, I would highly recomend the Toshiba M500 wit an ATI 4550. This will allow you to play nearly any game on the market, even Crysis(if you put the settings on low/med).
October 22nd, 2009 at 1:00 am
How playable will left4 dead be in buildings with the GMA 4500 MHD?
October 23rd, 2009 at 9:08 am
Inside, frame rates on the 4500 MHD while playing L4d can reach the 40’s assuming the settings are set appropriately. However, as soon as you adventure out side or enter a room that requires increased draw distance (A room with a window for example) the frame rate drops significantly making the game nearly unlplayable. Because all levels have outside sections I would strongly advise against purchasing this game to play on a computer equipped with any of the intel integrated GPUs. Even other low end integrated GPUs such as the Nvidia 9400m (102m) will have trouble playing this game.

Hi,
I read the questions and I don’t wanna ask can “I play this or that with Intel 4500MHD or not”. It would be enough to know what would be the ATI/Nvidia equivalent of Intel 4500MHD. Do you know that?
Thanks!
October 30th, 2009 at 11:25 pm
Well I have this PC:
Intel Core 2 Duo
4 GB of DDR2 RAM
Intel GMA X4500MHD media accelertor with 1759 of shared memory with sharder 4 and DirectX 10 support
I could like play a lot of new games like Call of Duty 4, Call of Duty World at War.
This is the attributes of Intel GMA X4500MHD:
Video Ram: 1.7 GB
3D: Yes
Hardware T&L: Yes
Pixel Shader version: 4.0
Vertex Shader version: 4.0
so the card is not bad at all, it only the sharder speed is slower than the modern graphic card, the core speed compared to the modern graphic card is almost the same, it even faster than the modern card. And that it shared memory instead having it own, if it had it own memory, it will be the same as the modern card, so this card it not bad at all. Games depend your CPU, a pentium 4 will not work, a pentium-core will play games in low, core 2 duo or quad could play games in medium even high, so it not bad at all.

I am purchasing a laptop for my father with the aforementioned graphic card and was worried that it will hinder the usage of the system to its best. But after reading this article and the QAs my understanding is that except for games (and that too those which require higher graphic capability) the system will work perfectly well. My sincere thanks to Charles and to Lee. Thanks!

Hi, I’m using windows 2000 (I must use this system for my daq setup) is there any video driver to be compatible with win2000
November 2nd, 2009 at 9:00 am
Mark Mamon: Tiberian Wars should run just fine. More modern games like Supreme commander may not.
C.Lee: Yup. There is no way Blizzard would leave you guys hanging. You wont be able to max out the settings, but you should be able to get by with low/medium.
Alex: Honestly I am not sure. I wrote the section 8 review, but I don’t have integrated card to test it with. My suspicion is that it is not possible. This was an xbox port meaning that it requires a more intensive GPU.
Morteza: Try using XP drivers, XP is essentially 2000. If that does not work Intel may have them on their site here: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Default.aspx
November 2nd, 2009 at 10:57 am
morteza – actually there are. Go to http://www.intel.com/, go to support and downloads. Select Graphics, then Laptop Graphics, then Mobile Intel 4 Series. You should then be able to select your operating system; Windows 2000 shows up. Let me know if that works . . . I don’t have a way of testing it.
November 2nd, 2009 at 11:08 am
Ok I’m going to try and answer as many questions as I can.
Kyle – ATI’s solution is the Mobility Radeon HD 3200/4200, and Nvidia’s is the GeForce 9400M
Michael – it depends. The performance of a graphics card is more than a sum of its clockspeeds and supported technologies. The GMA 4500MHD is not suitable for modern gaming in real-world benchmarks
Alex – unfortunately no, Section 8 needs a more powerful graphics card (Nvidia GeForce 7800/ATI Radeon X1800)
aashish – you are correct – the GMA 4500MHD will work fine for everything else. It will not hold back system performance. And you are quite welcome.
Please feel free to post follow up questions if you have them!
November 3rd, 2009 at 11:37 pm
“Intel integrated graphics are not nearly as bad as they once were…” lol, starting with that statement makes it sound as if you were are about to reveal an intel graphics card that would work excellent…….
Verdict: UNPLAYABLE…
Verdict: UNPLAYABLE…

What a waste of time. Next time just say it continues to suck and you still need radeon or nvidia. It’ll save you time!
November 5th, 2009 at 2:32 am
Hi there,
I would like to place a question regarding the Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD. Sony has launched a notebook with
the following STATS:SONY VAIO VGN-Z51WG/B
Windows 7 64bit
Intel Core 2 Duo P9700 (2.8GHz)
6 GB (1×4GB + 1×2GB) DDR3 SDRAM
400 GB SATA
Nvidia GF 9300M GS + Intel GMA 4500 MHD Memory up to 3030MB
What about the graphics performance since it has an additional
card? Do they “work” together or each chipset has different task
and they do not combine their capabilities in gaming, and CAD programme like ArchiCAD and MODO?
November 5th, 2009 at 11:33 am
kostas – the cards do not work together. The VAIO Z can switch between them; the GMA 4500MHD offers better battery life while the 9300M-GS will be better for performance.
The laptop will work just fine for CAD. For gaming the 9300M-GS is much better than the GMA 4500MHD; if you have any specific questions just post another comment.
November 6th, 2009 at 4:41 am
Thanks Charles!
November 7th, 2009 at 12:57 am
The GL40 chipset of Intel GMA 4500MHD is the lowest class of the all. It has the slowest core speed and shader speed, low system memory, no switchable graphic, and it suppose to be called GMA 4500M (without the HD), so it the worst of the all, the game in chipset GM45 is much faster, it is the fastest of all Intel chipset, It can display 3D games much better than the GL40, plues, so of the processing of Intel GMA is depended to the CPU, it will be playble to Intel Core 2 Duo, not a Intel Pentium-Dual core, and not a Pentium D or 4, I played Call of Duty World at War with it, I played in the level Venteea and no lag at all, and it in high, the most stable to play it in is in medium quality, althrough can play it in high, but the best is in medium, so the GL40 is a bad chip, the GM45 is the better one, so 3D games like Call of Duty 4 can played in GM45 not GL40, I tested it in Call of Duty World at War high quailty, and it works, since Call of Duty World at War is in Call of Duty 4 graphic engine, it should always work, since my GM45 works on Call of Duty World at War.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:59 am
That is very true, Michael, and I considered that prior to writing this review. However, even if the performance was 20-25% better, most of the games I tested still wouldn’t be playable.
I actually just bought a new notebook with a GMA 4500MHD so I am hoping to write another updated article with newer game benchmarks (Left 4 Dead 2, Borderlands, etc).

November 11th, 2009 at 8:58 pm
can you improve the performance by increasing the ram
November 12th, 2009 at 4:04 pm
can this card handle Dragon Age
November 15th, 2009 at 9:36 am
BUT! the question is… CAN IT PLAY STAR CRAFT???
November 17th, 2009 at 12:12 pm
mmi – if your TV has a VGA port you can use that to connect to it.
Sami shaikh – unfortunately no, the GMA 4500MHD is not powerful enough to play those games.
Juan Taveras – we hope to be testing the L4D2 demo with the GMA 4500MHD shortly!
Michael Wen – yes and no. If you already have enough RAM (2GB+), then no, but if you only have 1GB or so then yes. And no it can’t play Dragon Age.
Dan – indeed!
November 18th, 2009 at 1:33 pm
If you put 6 GB of ram vidiokartata 288 mb will become real, and so will I be able to play the games they want minimum 256?

November 18th, 2009 at 5:27 pm
hi i have a question about my new laptop. i have the new hp pavilion laptop and was wondering if i could play my L4D off steam.
my specs are as follows:
windows 7 64bit
intel graphics accelerator 4500mhd
4G DDR3 RAM
intel core 2 duo
any help would be greatly appreciated.
November 18th, 2009 at 9:00 pm
iliyan – no. The 4500MHD shares memory from the main RAM, it does not have its own. Games that require a 256MB video card mean that the video card must have 256MB of its own RAM.
Jonathan – In our review above, Left 4 Dead was only playable half the time. Outdoors no, indoors yes. Your system has better specifications than ours so it probably can play the game, but at the very lowest settings. I wouldn’t recommend it, the experience wouldn’t be all that fun.
November 19th, 2009 at 2:10 pm
I apologize but my english is not very good.
On my laptop (Core2 Duo 2,4 ghz, 4gb ram, Graphics GE45) I walked Dragon Age!!!
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Graphics-Media-Accelerator-4500MHD-GMA-X4500MHD.9883.0.html
I realized that from here could reach up to 384 mb and what are these 384 and why if you meet these 384 mb you can not play the new games with similar requirements?

Hi
Researching to by laptop, Think pad T series/Macbook pro. I need a m/c which is lighter can run linux with 3d desktop. I do compile huge programs on my laptop. Run 3d application, but no gaming. I have two questions:
1. Will 6MB L2 cache benefit me? (more than 20% over 3MB)
2. WIll 4500MHD will be good enough for me or should I go with discrete ATI/NVidia cards.
Thanks in advance .
November 25th, 2009 at 3:40 pm
I have this chip in my Acer 1810T.
Will I hear audio if I hookup a HDMI cable to my HD TV?
November 25th, 2009 at 7:54 pm
Joe p – not sure about the Modern Warfare 2 compatibility. I would suggest getting the game for the Xbox 360 or PS3, it’s the same thing.
david – the 6MB cache (assuming you are talking about a Core 2 Duo) can’t hurt you but I don’t think you’ll see more than a 10-15% improvement vs a 3MB version . . . I would go for a higher clockspeed first, that’s what actually gets things done. How long do your programs typically take to compile?
GDS – yes, it will.
November 26th, 2009 at 2:42 pm
Thanks charles.
It takes around hour and half on my existing 2Ghz T7250.
November 26th, 2009 at 2:43 pm

what will happen if i add another grafic card??
November 26th, 2009 at 8:20 pm
If my mobile 4500 can run halo 2, what else could it run? Would batman arkham asylum work?
November 27th, 2009 at 2:33 am
Will this run The Sims 3?
November 27th, 2009 at 11:11 am
David – you will definitely benefit from a faster processor. Ideally you should get a computer with a quad-core processor, that will cut your rendering times by at least one half. Depending on your budget and uses, a Core i7 processor is what to go for.
Also, a dedicated Nvidia video card may help you, but only if the application you use to compile supports Nvidia’s CUDA graphics card acceleration. I’m guessing not.
Banny – you can’t change or add a graphics card, the GMA 4500MHD is soldered into the motherboard and therefore non-removable.
Joe p – Arkham Asylum should work but no guarantees; the requirements call for an ATI X1300 or Nvidia 6600GT. Both of those cards are many years old. However the recommended graphics card is the Nvidia 9800GT . . . that is quite a high-powered card and somehow I doubt your experience on the 4500MHD will be that pleasant.
Anon – yes.
November 27th, 2009 at 9:17 pm
Hello, first of all I would like to say thank you so much, this review site is exceptional.
Second of all, I purchased a laptop for my son since he will be going back to College this January.
I got him an HP Pavillon DV6T. Specs are:
Intel® Core 2 Duo Processor T6600 (2.2GHz)
2MB L2 cache
800MHz front side bus
4GB DDR3 SDRAM (shared)
500GB (5,400RPM) SATA Hard Drive
Lightscribe SuperMulti 8x DVD±RW double layer drive
15.6″ diagonal HD High Definition HP LED BrightView widescreen display; 1366 x 768 native resolution
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD (shared)
I do know that when he is on study breaks, he loves to play 3 games. The 3 games are:
-CounterStrike Source
-Team Fortress 2
-Left 4 Dead
Will the laptop’s specification suffice in order for him to have a little fun during his study breaks?
Thank you in advance for your response.
November 28th, 2009 at 12:35 am
i tested batman arkham asylum. it will run really well and with high quality too, but you need a really good processor
November 28th, 2009 at 12:40 am
left 4 dead will work well on medium or low settings and counterstrike: source will work perfect on high. i dont know about team fortress though. i have never played it.
November 28th, 2009 at 2:56 am

hello. i have a hp pavillion dv4 1430us entertainment pc. here is a link to the specifications. http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/hp-pavilion-dv4-1430us/4507-3121_7-33697847.html?tag=psum .i want to know what i can play. and, if halo 2 works fine what else will besides batman?
December 2nd, 2009 at 4:13 am
can this play age of empires 3 or similar rts games?
December 2nd, 2009 at 11:56 am
Kasun – the GMA 4500MHD cannot play Crysis, sorry. NFS Undercover requires a Radeon 9500/GeForce 6500 so you should be able to play it . . . but no guarantees. I wouldn’t recommend trying it as I think you will be wasting your money.
Unfortunately the GMA 4500MHD cannot be upgraded either, it is permanently attached to the computer.
Perry – yes the GMA 4500MHD can run TF2 at reasonable settings.
joe p – do you have any specific games in mind?
aldo – Age of Empires III should run without problems.
December 2nd, 2009 at 2:09 pm
Greetings, I was wondering if i could use this video card if I work a lot with apps like Photoshop, connected to an external 20′ monitor.
I’m plannig to buy a Dell inspiron with Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB DDR2 and this graphic card.
December 2nd, 2009 at 3:02 pm
Yes, you can hook up a laptop with a GMA 4500MHD to an external monitor. Just make sure that the laptop has the correct connections (HDMI, DVI, VGA, etc) for your monitor. If you need help with this, let me know.

-800Mhz
-DDR2SD RAM
-Mobile Intel Graphics Accelerator 4500MHD with shared memory
, and i bought it online and just waiting for it to arrive, hearing from all the comments and facts i’m having second doubts that i wouldnt enjoy it when i start playing games, should i get a different laptop with a higher graphics card?
and can my laptop be capable of playing sims2,sims3,age of empires3, sim city, rollercoaster tycoon? this are just the basic games im just going to install on my pc.
post a comment on my comment or email me at keither09@live.com
December 4th, 2009 at 2:51 pm
joe p./Muhammad Taha – there are so many games out there and honestly I don’t know if the 4500MHD can run them all. Halo 2 requires an Nvidia 6100/ATI X700 so it *should* run though I would NOT recommend it.
Also, the GMA 4500MHD cannot be upgraded since it is a permanent part of the computer. You need to buy a new computer if you want a better graphics card.
ash – PES2010 a definite no, it requires an Nvidia 7900GT which is much, much faster than the GMA 4500MHD.
Keith – Yes definitely, if you want to play games you should get a different notebook. Look for something with an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570, 4650, or 4670, or an Nvidia GeForce GT 220M, 230M, 240M, 250M. Those graphics cards will be able to play modern games fine.

December 9th, 2009 at 4:18 am
Hi Charles P. Jefferies
This is a very useful analyzing that is all about my notebook !
But I should tell you that you just make a mistake !
The GPU you analyzed is GMA 4500M ! not GMA 4500MHD !! when you mention that the chipset is GL40 , It means the GPU is only can be GMA 4500M ! the GL40 just support celeron and pentium CPU s and can’t handel Core 2 Due one !
But the GM45 and GS45 chipsets that also are in the mobile intel 4 series express chipset family can combine with most new cpu s including Core 2 Due and Core 2 Extreme . and this chipsets have Intel GMA 4500MHD GPU that is much powerfull than GMA 4500M !
So I think it is better to give an analyze of GMA 4500MHD too !
yours
December 9th, 2009 at 4:35 am
Oh .. and a thing
The GPU-Z utility shows wrong details for GMA 4500M ! as you can see it shows that the chipset is GM45 while it is GL40 and the GMA 4500M has 400 Mhz clock not 475 Mhz !
The latest CPU-Z is the same while showing my cpu as Core 2 Solo !! While it is just a celeron 900 one !
good luck
December 9th, 2009 at 9:01 am
HI Friends !!!
Can anyone tell me how to increase the video memory (dedicated or shared) of
Intel GMA 4500MHD
are there any softwares for that ???
if there are please please Tell me their NAMES.
and tell me if I can do it myself
My system’s configuration is:
(it’s Acer Aspire 5738)
Intel core 2 duo T6600 (2.2 GHz,2MB L2 Cache,800 MHz FSB)
4 GB DDR 2 Memory
Intel GMA 4500 MHD (dedicated video memory:64 MB,Shared video memory:1631 MB)
320 GB HDD
Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit;Since my processor is a 64 bit one) rating for my computer is:
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T6600 @ 2.20GHz 5.7
Memory (RAM) 4.00 GB 5.7
Graphics Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family 4.1
Gaming graphics 1759 MB Total available graphics memory 3.4
Primary hard disk 5.5
So my computer’s rating is 3.4 Only !!! (Determined by lowest subscore)
I can play Delta Force Extreme,Black hawk down & Joint operations smoothly
BUT when I started Crysis Demo the FPS was only 1-2 (I determined it by seeing only)
Please contact me & TELL ME HOW TO INCREASE THE VIDEO MEMORY OF INTEL GMA 4500MHD
My email: pritish333@yahoo.com
My BLOG: http://www.pritishpatil.webs.com
THANK YOU FOR READING ME.
December 9th, 2009 at 10:16 am
Kasun – TF2 should run on low settings; Far Cry 2 definitely not. Do you know the requirements for kung fu panda and G force?
Prtish – the GMA 4500MHD shares memory from the computer’s main memory. It has no dedicated memory of its own. You cannot increase the amount of memory it shares manually; the card borrows memory as it needs it.
Crysis will not work on a notebook with the 4500MHD since the 4500MHD is not powerful enough. Video memory does not determine how well a graphics card will perform.

Hi-
I am thinking of buying new Dell latitude z laptop and interested in playing “Empire: Total war” on it. the laptop specs are as follows:
Processor & Memory: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo SU9600 with VT (1.60GHz) 4.0GB DDR3 Internal Memory with Latitude On
Operating System: Genuine Windows® 7 Professional with media
Solid State Drive:128 GB Mobility Solid State Drive
Graphics:Mobile Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD
I would extremely be grateful if you guide me weather these specifications are good enough for Empire : total war game (I am not a game person, but I really like this game)- thanks in advance
December 9th, 2009 at 4:12 pm
Abdul, i would check out the XPS series from Dell. On many of these models they offer more powerful graphic cards intended for modern games like Empire: Total War.
Someone correct me if i’m wrong here, but the Latitude series seems more intended for students and people working in offices. The CPU is not fast enough and the Integrated Intel Graphics will not be able to handle any newer games.
Back to the point: For fun, go XPS!
December 10th, 2009 at 12:08 am
Hi,
I am considering buying a new HP DV6T laptop which comes with the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD. This computer is for my husband who does not play any demanding games, mostly card games or mahjong. He uses the computer more for research and general browsing. Under these circumstances would this video card’s functionality be sufficient? I appreciate your help.

Will the 4500 run Arkham Asylum?
December 11th, 2009 at 11:11 am
abdul – you will have a lot of trouble running Empire: Total War on a GMA 4500MHD. The game requires a video card with 256MB of dedicated memory . . . the GMA 4500MHD has none. I would not recommend playing the game with that card.
I agree with Kris, perhaps look at a Dell Studio XPS. For gaming, it would be ideal to have an Nvidia GeForce GT230M/GT240M/GTS250M or ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570/4650/4670.
Cathy – the GMA 4500MHD will work fine for those purposes. I have a GMA 4500MHD in my new laptop and it does everything fine (except play demanding 3D video games).
Andy – Arkham Asylum MIGHT work on the 4500MHD; the game calls for an ATI X1300 or Nvidia 6600GT, both of which are very old. However, the recommended video card is also an Nvidia 9800GT, which is many times more powerful than the 4500MHD. I wouldn’t recommend playing Arkham Asylum on the GMA 4500MHD.
December 12th, 2009 at 12:33 pm
Is anyone actually sure about what games we can play? Because i already played call of duty 4, modern warfare 2, halo 2, and batman arkham asylum. They all work perfectly fine. The only catch is that your processor should be at least a core 2 duo. For batman arkham asylum, you should get quad core or up. This graphics card also runs crysis okay. If you have good processor, you can play it about 25-30 fps with no lag.
December 13th, 2009 at 12:41 pm
Joe – are you sure about Crysis? Take a screenshot of what settings you are using, and use our FRAPS article to benchmark your machine:
http://pcgamingcorner.com/wordpress/?p=1966
Any of the other games would be good too . . . you need solid numbers to back up your claims.

i am having a dell studio 15 with intel core2 duo, 4 gb memory

Hello… let me tell you something I have a dv2000 with Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family and y had run a quite of good games and is a lower chip. I run resident evil 5 in this notebook sow they are bad but not that bad I have to tell!!
December 15th, 2009 at 1:12 am
hello…. will 4500mhd play sims 3? if not… what a the best grapich card that will you choose??
December 15th, 2009 at 5:09 am
charles, very nice of you to entertain him, but there is no way joe p is playing any of those games on a 4500… thats just flat wrong, crysis wouldnt think of booting up with hardware like that. the benchmark even sites COD4 not working, and he says MW2 worked? not a chance of it, probably running ATI 4500 of some type and doesnt know it. anyway, i was actually curious if you would have any assumption as to how the 4500MHD would perform with a ULV Celeron 743 as in the new Dell Vostro V13… And by this i mean in competition with the standard netbook setup of today with the N270 and GMA950. think it will handle source?
December 15th, 2009 at 9:19 am

hmmm.. a number of good games are playable on 4500hd.. i have one myself and have played both cod4 and cod6.. at 800×600 resolutions.. fluidly.. a lot of videos are available on you tube as well.. that should be more than enough proof.. about joe p’s post above,i think he may be right.. that with a more powerful processor you can play the said games without lag.. btw, im using a laptop.. core 2 duo.. i have friends with the same gma’s saying that arkham asylum is playable.. havent tried it myselg though.. left for dead is “playable” too.. there are just a number of settings that you would have to lower.. i recently saw a video of L4D 2 on youtube, running on 4500hd, fluidly, as in, fluidly.. though.. the graphics of the game were VERY VERY much toned down.. final note.. windows 7 together with direct x 11 slightly improves the card’s performance..

sidhant – NFS Shift will not run on the GMA 4500MHD; Undercover will *run* at the very lowest settings but will be choppy . . . I would not recommend buying it unless you have a more powerful computer to play it on.
Freaks – yes the SIMS 3 will run. If you did not already buy a notebook with the 4500MHD then I would try to get something with an Nvidia GeForce or ATI Mobility Radeon card; they will play games much better than the 4500MHD.
Jack – I agree with you, there is no way Crysis runs on a GMA 4500MHD. That is why I said “you need solid numbers to back up your claims”
Regarding the Celeron 743 processor – it is easily faster than an Atom but nonetheless still a weak CPU. According to users on the NotebookReview.com forums, it has trouble doing YouTube HD. If coupled with a GMA 4500MHD it will be able to handle source. I suggest looking for something with an Intel Pentium Dual-Core or Core 2 Duo ULV processor instead, they will have significantly better performance.
Kasun – NFS Undercover will barely run on the GMA 4500MHD. I do not recommend buying it because you will have a very poor experience.
Zack D. – I think it is safe to say that KOTOR 1 and 2 will run on the GMA 4500MHD. Both games only require a Pentium III processor (which is over ten years old) and a 32MB graphics card. I would be very surprised if you cannot run them.
Leon – CoD 4 and CoD 6 I might be able to understand if you had a powerful CPU but still, the experience would not be ideal. Crysis I just can’t see, I did not even bother to test it on the GMA 4500MHD considering my Nvidia GeForce 9600M GT graphics card in my HP laptop can barely play it.

Hi! I was going to buy a laptop with these specs:
3GB Ram
Dual core 2.2 ghz, 800mhz processor
Windows 7 home premium
Intel GMA 4500mhd
Can I run The sims 2 and all expansion packs at a steady framerate???
Thanks in advance
December 16th, 2009 at 4:23 pm
i mean that crysis will work but even if you have a good processor, you might still lag when you are playing. The graphics will be fine, but it may lag. The framerate will not be steady. The same applies to batman arkham asylum.
December 16th, 2009 at 4:39 pm
also, i couldn’t benchmark my cpu because for some reason, this site wouldn’t let me comment or use links. an error thing came up. so i had to write these on another cpu. sorry.
December 16th, 2009 at 4:41 pm
another thing. when i sayed playable, i meant for people who don’t care too much for graphics
December 16th, 2009 at 8:24 pm
I have read most of these comments in search of games playable on my Dell 1545,but none that have been said seem to be definitely playable.Could I DEFINITELY play oblivion,CoD 4,any STALKER series games, left 4 dead, mass effect,or roller coaster tycoon 3?Any help is appreciated, feel free to suggest FPS,or RPS playable games.
December 16th, 2009 at 8:30 pm
you can definitely play cod4, left 4 dead, and roller coaster tycoon. You can also play modern warfare 2, left 4 dead 2, and halo 2
December 17th, 2009 at 3:46 pm
what about there framerate? Also what about oblivion or fallout 3,those are my favorite games. Thanks for any help.
December 17th, 2009 at 6:37 pm
Hi, few questions.
1. I want to clarify — this will play mostly any hd videos? Does this include the netflix instant movies? (microsoft silverlight)
2. What’s the minimum chipset required to play a game such as CoD4 smoothly and would I be able to find it in a netbook?
Thanks,
Charlie
December 17th, 2009 at 7:17 pm
matt- i looked into it and oblivion will without a doubt work really smoothly. fallout 3 might lag every once in a while, but it will be playable. as long as you aren’t addicted to graphics you should be pretty satisfied with results.
charlie- netbooks can’t play games really. not really because of the video chipset, but more because the processor. to my knowledge, netbooks only have intel atom and that can barely even run youtube’s hd videos because its too slow. gma 4500mhd will run cod4 and even mw2 but it probably wont work on a netbook. you would need at least a core 2 duo or better. if you want portable, try a laptop.
December 20th, 2009 at 4:14 am
My system is DG33FB mother board and intel Core2 duo cpu 4500 @2.2GHz(2cores)
I have added Nvidia 8400GS 512mb graphic card recently to improve viewing skype video calls.
Do i require to change any settings from inbuilt graphic media accelerator or the both will work.
I did not find any great improvement after installing the graphic card and the updating its driver
Thanks for the advice

Hii…
I am planning to buy laptop with core 2 duo P8400,2.26Ghz,2 G.B RAM..
,graphics card is of NVidia Geforce 9600M GS Discrete with 512 MB dedicated video RAM…
So I want to ask whether the above configuration is best suited for the software of PDMS(Plant design and management system) basically of piping .
n also one thing which is the latest and best amongst each other…NVidia Geforce 9600M GS Discrete with 512 MB dedicated video RAM or Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500MHD
Does Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500MHD work for me as I want to work on design software…
Feel free to write me on my email id pankaj_ldmech@yahoo.com

December 21st, 2009 at 2:32 am
Hi Tuareg…
Did u change this 45ooMHD for better option then proceed…
December 21st, 2009 at 2:35 am
Hi Tuareg…
Is there any other best option for solving my above purpose of designing???
Is there any other alternative of above configurations???
December 21st, 2009 at 2:04 pm
I am planning to buy a new laptop. I don’t play much games, but do watch movies & videos. Specs: Intel Core 2 duo 2.2 GHZ, 4 GB DDR3 RAM, 500 GB Serial ATA HArd drive (5400 rpm), Intel GMA 4500MHD, Windows 7 Home premium.
Will this play movies on an externally connected HDTV (via HDMI). Does the HDMI support hi-def video as well as audio (since I usually connect everything to my Onkyo NR906 receiver from where the video signal goes to my HDTV & the audio to my speakers).
I was wondering if the above specs are fine for my purpose (gen net surging, modest amount of downlaoding, streaming video, etc) for should I go for higher processor (say 2.53 GHz) & better graphics card (Nvidia, etc).
Thanks in advance.
December 22nd, 2009 at 3:15 am
thanks..your review is about GMA running video games..
any opinions about it running video production?
i’m graphic designer using a Dell workstation with built in GMA 4500 card.
will the graphic do a good job with videos and graphics softwares?
thanks in advance!
December 22nd, 2009 at 10:16 am
I’m going to try and answer as many questions as I can.
Nick – yes, the Sims 2 will run fine on the GMA 4500MHD.
joe p. – we need solid verifiable evidence than you can run Modern Warfare 2 and Left 4 Dead 2 . . . I was not able to run similar games on my GMA 4500MHD.
Matt – definitely no. Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 yes, but the others – Oblivion, Call of Duty 4, STALKER, Mass Effect, Left 4 Dead – no. Dungeon Siege 2 would run, maybe you’d like that game.
Charles (nice name BTW
) – Yes, the GMA 4500MHD will not have any problem with HD video, however the Atom processor in netbooks will have trouble. For CoD4 you ideally want to have at least a GeForce G210M/GT220M/GT230M or ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 and up and a Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz processor or better.
KRISH – the Nvidia video card won’t help your Skype cards, that is more dependent on your Internet connection than anything. Could you describe the specifics of the problems you are having?
Pankaj – Interesting question. What is the exact type of design software you are looking at? Do you have a link? I’ll check it out.
Tuareg – unfortunately no, the GMA 4500MHD is permanently affixed to the notebook’s circuit board.
BJ – Yes, that laptop will work fine for playing videos and movies via HDMI. HDMI supports both audio and video and will send both to your TV. The specificatiosn of that laptop are fine.
Zam – How does your Dell workstation perform right now? Usually, video/development applications don’t usually benefit from having a powerful video card. It more depends on the processor.

Thanks and appreciate your help.
December 24th, 2009 at 2:54 am
Hiii Charles P. Jefferies,
As you said….
Pankaj – Interesting question. What is the exact type of design software you are looking at? Do you have a link? I’ll check it out.
Well I want to learn PDMA software..Basically it is of piping design software.
link for its site is
http://www.aveva.com/products_services_aveva_plant_pdms.php
Please tell me whether I can run this software as per below configuration…
And if not then pls suggest me the better one…
15.4″ inch (1280×800 pixels) WXGA+ Wide TFT Display
Intel Core 2 Duo T6500 Processor (2.1 GHz, 2 MB Cache, 800 MHz)
Intel GM45 + ICH9-M Chipset
Intel GMA 4500MHD
2 GB RAM

My system is a Core 2 Duo 2.0Ghz, 4gb Ram, 250GB HDD space
Hmm, I managed to run Assassin’s Creed, Prince of Persia (the newest one) and NFS Undercover. All this ran at low settings. Assassin’s Creed and Prince of persia were laggy at times but bearable. I got NFS Shift to the main menu, but the game crashes after the video, I’m not really sure why.

Can tell me Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD is intergrated or …..
December 29th, 2009 at 11:08 am
murph- Yes, the Intel GMA 4500MHD is intergrated.
Dereck- Yes, World in Conflict will run fine.
Smith- I know that it is possible to play it on the 4500MHD but, it isn’t reccomended. Also, it will only run on low settings. Check this video out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Onlj351HNSg

i bought a laptop with Intel GMA 4500,, can it be upgraded to 512 or 1gb graphic card?
December 30th, 2009 at 8:52 am
A few previous post have asked about whether you can upgrade the intel gma units, and im aware as its built into the motherboard so you can’t, but are there any external units which can bolster the video RAM? if so can you recommend any specifically and what connections they require.
Thanks,
Toby
December 30th, 2009 at 2:39 pm
not sure if these guys realise the power required for new football manager games. football manager 2009 needs equivalent of nvidia fx5900 to run. i had to upgrade my whole system because i had an fx5600 and it struggled with the 3d pitch.
how does the 4500mhd compare to an nvidia fx5600?
checked tom hardware guide hierarchy ( http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/geforce-310-5970,review-31747-7.html?xtmc=graphics_hierarchy&xtcr=1 ) but its not on there.

i am looking at buying the HP Pavillion DV6T:
• Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
• Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T6600 (2.2GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB)
• 4GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
• 320GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive \
• Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD
Will i be able to connect this to my HD TV as is or do I need 512MB ATI Radeon(TM) HD 4530 Graphics for this??
January 2nd, 2010 at 1:45 am
Thanks a lot. I was very much confused about the graphics/video card before this and I believe now I know something. I am not hard core gamer but I intend to play few 3D games for which Intel(R) Graphic Media Accelerator 4500 MHD may not be suitable. I am trying to configure my own system (Dell Inspiron 14). Dell support guy says that I should get Studio and price difference is too much. If I just upgrade video card to NVIDIA® GeForce™ 9300M GS 256MB, I have to pay extra $100 and NVIDIA’s website also shows similar price for the new one.
So why can’t we just forget the gaming part as far as laptop is concerned? If I add few more dollars rather than upgrading the video card, I can get a dedicated gaming console itself. How does this option sound?
January 2nd, 2010 at 2:43 am
chellani thanks for the info… actually HP is upgrading to the 512 mb ATI Radeon for $100… so i am confused if i need to upgrade now? or will i be able to plug it into my HDtv just with a DVI cord with the existing 4300 graphic card?
January 3rd, 2010 at 2:13 pm
Dragon Age does run on the Intel Graphics Media Acellerator 4500MHD, however, I have had problems running some of the games mentioned, as well as Mass Effect and Jade Empire. Borderlands also run well.
January 4th, 2010 at 8:18 am
I’m buying, HP – “Pavilion Laptop with Intel® Pentium® Processor” very soon.
Its has -4GB DDR3 DIMM memory-
with -Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD-
It can be expanded to 8GB of RAM
I’m thinking of buying this -PNY NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT 1GB GDDR3 PCI Express Graphics Card-
then expanding my ram to 8GB…
but without expanding anything, will my laptop play games like sims2 + sims3 and play HD movies or plain DVDs nicely? or will it be very choppy?
if its choppy which would you recommend buying first? expanding ram to 8GB or buying this graphics card? or would you recommend a different graphics card?
Any help, advice is appreciated.

if u r curious if a game will run well, go to canyourunit.com and it will check your pc’s ability to run games. some of the results are inaccurate though. on gma 4500mhd, you can run halo 2, cod 4: modern warfare, cod: modern warfare 2, left 4 dead, left 4 dead 2, borderlands, crysis (barely), crysis warhead (barely), and batman: arkham asylum. trust me, i know because i have played these games. i have a hp pavillion dv4 1430us and these all these games run pretty well except for batman. the graphics are good, but it lags a little because my pc doesn’t match the processor recommended. i hope this helps

Does Elder Scrolls:Oblivion work on this card? I have a Dell Studio 15 with 4 gb of RAM?
January 5th, 2010 at 1:28 pm
Lots of comments, I’m having a tough time keeping up with them all! Bear with me as I try . . .
Cheng – at minimum settings you should get at or slightly above 30 FPS. The GMA 4500MHD will run TF2.
Joe – thanks for the feedback. Just to repeat what he said, Joe got Assassin’s Creed and Prince of Persia (newest one) running but not NFS Shift, it keeps crashing.
Marcus – unfortunately no, the GMA 4500MHD cannot be replaced or upgrade. It is permanently affixed to the motherboard in the computer. Dawn of War II needs a better graphics card than the GMA 4500MHD to run, at least something like the Nvidia GeForce G210M.
Smith – MW2 is a tough call. I had trouble running the original Modern Warfare on my GMA 4500MHD, I wouldn’t buy MW2 only to find out it doesn’t run.
Derek – World in Conflict is going to be borderline. The game requires a 128MB card. The GMA 4500MHD supports the required technologies (DirectX 9.0c) but from what I remember running it on my desktop, the game is quite demanding. I wouldn’t recommend it.
degsy – Football Manager will run, the game’s system requirements list integrated Intel Graphics.
Mr.noThinG – is Smackdown vs Raw 2009 even available on PC? I have been unable to find it.
RV – Yes it does – the HP Pavilion dv6 has an HDMI port standard. I would only get the ATI Mobility Radeon graphics if you want to play 3D games. Otherwise it is not worth having (it will produce more heat and you’ll have less battery life as well).
Chellani – you are quite welcome
. Make sure you use Dell Coupons to lower the price of your Dell: http://www.notebookreview.com/dellCoupon.asp
For any sort of 3D gaming, I would go with a dedicated Nvidia GeForce or ATI Mobility Radeon graphics card – that way you are assured your games will run. The issue with the GMA 4500MHD is compatibility . . . some games just will not run on it. The Dell support guy is right, go with the Studio if possible, or as you noted, get the Inspiron and pick up an Xbox 360/PS3. The only thing with console games is that you’re going to spend more money per game. PC gaming is more economical in the long run.
Dillon T. – the GMA 4500MHD will play the Sims games fine as well as other basic 3D games, but if you can afford it the GeForce 9800GT will give you a far better gaming experience AND let you play any future games you might want to buy.
Vishnu – some people have tried to run NFS Shift on the GMA 4500MHD but have not been successful. So no.
Matt – Elder Scrolls is an older game – if you use the Oldblivion mod you could probably run it.

I have laptop dv6-1350us with Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD with 1695MB shared memory, is it possible to upgrade my graphics card?
January 6th, 2010 at 1:37 am
Mr.nOthIng – unfortunately Smackdown vs. Raw 2009 and 2010 appear to be only available on consoles . . . no PC. Sorry.
Which videos are you referring to in particular – which games?
mir – the GMA 4500MHD is permanently affixed to the computer, there is no way to remove or upgrade it.

Kasun is right Charles Sir I have also seen many Videos that this card playing games like that!!
January 7th, 2010 at 10:17 pm
guys, as i said before, you need a good processor if you want it to run. most of the guys on youtube have good processors or they are just trying to get you to throw your money away on some junk by using the best kind of graphics card there is. tell me your cpu info and the game you want to play and i’ll tell you if it will work and how well. also the benchmarking tool, fraps actually lowers your fps level, so don’t install and try to benchmark because the results will be unsatisfactory. when i was playing call of duty: modern warfare 2 on my pc, it ran well and i have intel core 2 duo and mobile gma 4500mhd. also what i have noticed is, is that the mobile version of the 4500mhd has better performence than the desktop version.

January 12th, 2010 at 7:01 pm
william- it can play left 4 dead 2 in fact
January 13th, 2010 at 3:27 pm
There is about a 0% chance of this card running Left 4 Dead 2, considering that it was unable to run Left 4 Dead in our initial tests. Look at benchmarks above. Even on the lowest settings the integrated card is simply unable to produce adequate results. Left 4 Dead is an even more demanding game and nearly all of the game takes place in an out door environment with high draw distances meaning you will probably never see the frame rate above 15fps, which is utterly unplayable.
January 13th, 2010 at 5:29 pm
vijay – The GMA 4500MHD is not going to be able to run Dragon Age, sorry. Left 4 Dead 2 as noted will also not be playable. I have a 4500MHD laptop and can attest to this. It is completely unplayable.
January 14th, 2010 at 12:55 am
my laptop is hp dv5-1150.
with this GC.
can i change the GC or it is already integrated with the motherboard?
January 14th, 2010 at 8:52 pm
actually, my pc can run Left 4 Dead 2. i have a hp pavillion dv4 1430us which has a gma 4500mhd mobile. it can actually run on medium settings on some features. if you have intel core 2 duo or better also, it should run. don’t get these games without a good processor. i know from experience that processors also play a big role in how well a game plays.you don’t have to believe me on the gma 4500mhd’s gaming abilities, but you’re really missing out. some other games i have been playing include call of duty: modern warfare 2, halo 2, and batman: arkham asylum. most games will work including things like borderlands. just try it. i know it works.
January 16th, 2010 at 9:29 am
I can run Dragon Age Origins on the GMA 4500MHD on medium settings. I also ran Empire Total War but it lags even on the lowest settings. Modern Warfare 2 was “Playable” in my opinion, but stay away from online, you won’t know what hit you, it lags like hell.

pc gaming corner, i’ve tested multiple games and most of them work pretty well. i am thinking that maybe it’s just the cpu you guys are using to test the games because my gma 4500mhd mobile can run modern warfare 2, which i would think is kind of a demanding game graphics wise. also the processor you guys are using is a pentium dual core, try a core 2 duo. and also, i learned that operating systems are actually big factors. get at least a 62 bit vista or gaming will be not very fun.

Hi everyone:
We can’t tell you how much we appreciate all of this discussion. However, understand that we can only provide answers based on the data we have. If you have a computer with different components and find discrepancies, please feel free to post your results.
That said it would help everyone, including us, if this was done with benchmarking software. Please read our article here: http://pcgamingcorner.com/wordpress/?p=1966 on how to benchmark games. Providing these numbers will help other determine the playability of games as many have different opinions on this.
I do acknowledge that the processor used in our demo machine was underpowered compared to newer processors. I encourage everyone to post their benchmarks with their system specifications so that we can build a more accurate picture of what this card is capable of.
Thanks,

I am planning to buy a Lenovo with the Intel GMA 4500mhd, I do not intend to play any games but I need to run full HD video clips from Canon camertas (h264) via hdmi to an external Monitor and digital projector. The CPU of the Lenovo (LENOVO Thinkpad SL500 NRJECGE)is an Intel Core™2 Duo T6670 2x 2,20 GHz – Would this combination work?
Thanks

I am planning to buy a Acer Aspire 5738 Laptop having:-
Intel C2D T6600 processor(2.2Ghz)
4GB RAM
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD
I am great gaming freak so I want to ask if the video memory could be expanded by attaching a dedicated graphics card in it.
PLS Ans.

Hey,
I just bought a lenovo IdeaPad Y450, which has a P7350 (a little better than Core @ Duo – 1066MHz bus speed, 3MB L2 Cache, 2.0 GHzCPU speed ) processor. It has 4GB of Ram and 500GB HDD. Got two questions:
What games can i run on this Laptop?
Can i run 1080p movies w/o lag?
Thanks i advance.
January 24th, 2010 at 9:03 pm
Hey can the intel x4500 run League of Legends and Battlefield 2 with at least 30 fps? (low settings are fine)
Oh and I have intel core duo 6400 and 4gb ram.
Thanks!
January 25th, 2010 at 10:33 am
summer – WoW is one of the few games that should be able to run on the 4500MHD at lower settings (people were even running the game on the old GMA 950 Intel graphics). Do you have the settings at minimum? Also, make sure your laptop is plugged in and you are in “High Performance” mode – click the battery icon in the system tray and set it to that. If either of those options do not work, then I suggest a driver update. Let me know.
dany – both C&C The First Decade and Age of Empires III should run fine.
Kasun – we cannot believe what you say UNLESS YOU PROVIDE BENCHMARKING DATA. PLEASE SEE OUR ARTICLE HERE:
http://pcgamingcorner.com/wordpress/?p=1966
YOU MUST PROVIDE DATA FOR US TO LOOK AT OTHERWISE WE CANNOT BELIEVE YOU.
Kurt – you are going to want a more powerful processor to run full HD video – look for a Core 2 Duo 2.5GHz+ or a Core i3/i5/i7 processor. If you got a low-end card like a Radeon HD 4200 or GeForce G 105M that would help video acceleration and take off some of the load from the CPU. If you tell us your budget/needs, we can help you find the right notebook.
Pulkit – the GMA 4500MHD is permanently affixed to the notebook and cannot be upgraded or modified in any way. Sorry.
Talha – There are a number of games you can run with the GMA 4500MHD, do you have any specific ones in mind?
Amy – League of Legends will definitely not run, it requires a GeForce 8800GT (a powerful desktop video card). Battlefield 2 might run at low settings but I wouldn’t count on it, and even if it does run, it won’t provide a very good gaming experience.

tnx!

hey,
i’m planning to buy ACER Aspire AS3935-744G16MN. specs are as below;
Intel Montevina 1066 MHZ 2.13 GHz. 3 MB Cache Memory P7450 / 4 GB DDR3 1066 Mhz. RAM / 160 GB 5400rpm SATA HARD DRIVE / Intel 4500MHD Max 1759 MB GRAPHICS CARD / Microsoft Windows Vista™ Home Premium OPS SYSTEM..
I’m not planning to play anything but Flight Simulator X on this laptop & wondering whether this config. will allow me to do so. My expectations are actually not so high, I could use the medium or poor graphic settings if necessary.. Will appreciate if someone answer that..
thx in advance..
January 26th, 2010 at 6:03 pm
Hi I am thinking of buying the HP Probook 5310M and it has the Intel 4500MHD. I’m not much of a gamer. I just play CS 1.6 or Starcraft every once in a while, but I mostly use MS Office 2007 and some Photoshop CS4. So my main question is, will the 4500MHD give good GPU acceleration in CS4. For example, when I’m turning big images files around will it be smooth, or a bit choppy.
January 29th, 2010 at 2:58 am
i got a sony vaio fwj-235j with 4500 mhd!! i tried playing PROTOTYPE….. an obviously … it dindnt work quite well!! the frame rate was just too slow….. the graphics were … uhh.. quite satisfactory i’d say…. i juss wanted to know if i cud do anything to increase the frame rate???
January 29th, 2010 at 10:53 am
Hay its Zain here actually i have bought hp dv6 which has this Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD but my laptop dont starts any game it has 4gb ram with 2.13ghz core2duo my laptop.i am very confused about it why this happens?????
January 29th, 2010 at 12:08 pm
fason – Flight Simulator X will definitely not run, sorry. You need a much better graphics card and a faster processor. Look for an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650/4670 or Nvidia GeForce GT 230M/GT 330M and above and a 2.5GHz Core 2 Duo, Core i3/i5/i7 processor.
Brian – you’re in luck because I actually own a ProBook 5310m. I love it (review here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=432540). CS 1.6 and Starcraft will run no problem. Unfortunately the 4500MHD will not help you in Photoshop, everything will be done by the CPU. I believe you need an Nvidia GPU to take advantage of GPU acceleration. Look at the HP dm3t – it is similar in size to the 5310m but is available with an Nvidia GeForce video card.
Aayush – Unfortunately there is basically nothing you can do to improve the performance. The 4500MHD is simply not a gaming card.
ZAIN UD DIN – What do you mean “does not start any game”? – You can’t get play any games? Note the 4500MHD is not a gaming card a I noted so playing any sort of modern 3D games with it will be basically impossible. Only older games like Counter-Strike will run – see the article at the top of this page.

Charles,
thanks for your interest & comments though I couldn’t wait and bought it today
cheers..

Will the Gateway – Laptop with Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor – NightSky Black from Best Buy run World of Warcraft with settings up close to max but not at max and still run with no lag and good fps?
Heres the link
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Gateway+-+Laptop+with+Intel%26%23174%3B+Core%26%23153%3B2+Duo+Processor+-+NightSky+Black/9548661.p?skuId=9548661&id=1218122908891

I’d just like to say I was able to play the COD4 Demo @ 800×600 with high texture quality and everything else low. The most intense parts dropped the FPS to ~18, but average was low to mid 20s and indoors it goes around low to mid 30s to 65. At 600×480 with high texture quaality, the frame rate never dropped below 25 but rised as high as 80.
L4D plays worse on the 4500MHD. At 800×600 with default settings I averaged 5-50 FPS. With 600×480 (600x something
) I dropped to a minimum of 8 FPS in an outdoor finale. Other than that, I averaged mid 20s indoors and mid to upper teens outdoors (both when many zombies are there).
My notebook is equipped with a duo core 2.1 ghz and 4500MHD. So COD4 is certainly playable, but L4D can be choppy in intense scenes. Still, you can enjoy L4D as long as you can overlook the choppy FPS.
February 6th, 2010 at 5:37 pm
I am aware that you can not change the video card, but is there a way to upgrade or modify the graphics on the computer, for example to use more RAM for the video card?
February 7th, 2010 at 3:44 pm
Randy – I wouldn’t call CoD4 playable at anything under 30 FPS, sorry. That is why I gave it a “no go” rating in this guide.
Luis – None of that would help, the 4500MHD is no good for playing games. Sorry.
February 8th, 2010 at 7:58 pm
Im getting a lap top with this card/chip. Not for gaming but for video programs. The adobe programs I use are very demanding and are said to work best on MAC’s, but Im not a MAC person. And I haven’t seen a laptop with an actual graphics “CARD” since…1999? So, seeing this gives me hope that my new HP wont crash when I attempt to render video.
February 9th, 2010 at 3:45 pm
Hey,
I’m considering changing my old laptop. I wonder if I will be able to play the latest of the Neverwinter Nights series fluidly with
— Intel Graphics 4500MHD
— Mobile Intel® Core2 Duo P8400 2260 MHz
— 2048MB DDR3/1066 MHz – PC3-8500?
THX!
February 10th, 2010 at 2:38 am
Sims2 runs very beautifully on the Intel Graphics 4500MHD. Can anybody give me more examples of games that are played smoothly ons this card?
February 10th, 2010 at 2:43 pm
I’m looking into getting a Dell Inspiron 1545 with an TFT TrueLife screen. Mainly I would like to use it to watch full HD movies fluidly. The specs I’m thinking about getting is:
- 3GB RAM
- An Intel Graphics 4500MHD(256MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD4330 is the only other better alternative)
- Intel Pentium Dual Core Processor T440 (Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T6600 is only other better alternative)
- 320GB Hard Drive
How do you think this will fair in using this for watching full HD movies or will I need to upgrade some of the stuff to the next best alternatives?
February 13th, 2010 at 1:44 pm
hi,i have a laptop with Intel Graphics 4500MHD,3gb ram.can anyone tell me whether i can play NFS SHIFT in my laptop.the processor is core2 duo.
February 14th, 2010 at 12:28 am
NFS Shift will not run on the 4500MHD, sorry.
Aidan – you need a reasonably powerful system to playback full HD movies well. Go for the upgraded graphics card (Radeon HD 4330) and the T6600 dual-core processor. The video card will help with the decoding and take some of the load off of the CPU.
February 15th, 2010 at 2:46 am
I have a Gateway with a Integrated Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 4500 and wonder if it could be at all possible to upgrade it to one that would play games better.
February 15th, 2010 at 5:18 pm
Can u play fall out 3 using the gma 4500?
February 18th, 2010 at 12:26 am
Ben – the GMA 4500MHD is physically part of the computer’s motherboard and is impossible to remove or upgrade. You will unfortunately have to purchase a new computer if you want a better graphics card.
tippmann714 – Fallout 3 does not work on the GMA 4500MHD, sorry.
February 20th, 2010 at 4:44 pm
I read that the GMA 4500MHD will decode jpeg2. I have a video camera (Samsung HMX-H100) that records in jpeg4 at 1080P. Will this process that type video? It is also in V264 I think. The machine is a Gateway EC Series EC1433u Cherry Red Intel Celeron M 743(1.30GHz) 11.6″ 2GB Memory 250GB HDD Netbook. Thanks!
February 21st, 2010 at 5:37 am
Hi! Can I play the old games, like a CS 1.6, diablo 2 end so on? If it possible – send the answer on my e-mail, Thank you!
February 21st, 2010 at 5:38 am
Ooops, video is Intel GMA 4500M of course)
February 21st, 2010 at 9:23 am
Beauwulf – The GMA 4500MHD helps decode HD video but does not do it entirely . . . that machine will not be able to play back 1080p video smoothly. 720p may be a challenge in some circumstances as well. Look for a notebook with at least a Core 2 Duo processor if you want to do 1080p video. A dedicated Nvidia or ATI graphics card would also help.
Vadim – yes, you can. CS 1.6 runs fine on the 4500MHD as does CS: Source.
February 22nd, 2010 at 10:44 am
Does anyone know if this will work for Toon Boom Studio 5? I understand that rendering might be too much to ask but I can do that on my desktop so it is a non-issue.
HP TM2 Tablet
1.3Ghz Core Duo
4GB Ram
320GB HDD
Win7 64bit
February 23rd, 2010 at 9:45 am
will i be able to play football manager 2010 in the 3D pitch view on the 4500MHD?
February 23rd, 2010 at 5:24 pm
I have the Intel(R) Graphic Media Accelerator 4500mhd.. will modern warfare 2 work?
February 24th, 2010 at 12:03 pm
Im using intel t3400 processor with this graphics card and 2gb ram and it runs need for speed undercover on vista at medium settings real good. You should upgrade your processor.
February 24th, 2010 at 6:29 pm
I think the problem her is the definition of playable. I have a Toshiba Satellite a505 with a Intel core 2 duo processor 2.2 ghz, 4 GB ram ddr-3 and the intel 4500 mhd graphics card. Left 4 Dead 2 does not run well at all even with everything turned to low. It’s still laggy, with major frame drop off rate when outside or with many zombies on the screen. It’s technically playable, as I did make it to the first safe house on dead center, but I would not want to play it again, as the lagginess/choppiness makes it not enjoyable to play. Same with modern warfare 2 and bioshock. Technically playable but not enjoyable with horrible frame rates.
GTA IV was also very bad. But I did check out some older games that played great.
Games that played great:
The Orange Box (half life 2, portal, TF2)
The sims 3
Madden 08
Fifa 08
Tiger Woods 08
Counter Strike Source
Command and Conquer the first decade
Battlefield 1942
Call of Duty 2
The Grand Theft Auto Trilogy (III, Vice City, San Andreas)
Halo 1
So for all the people who say games like Left for Dead 2 is playable, technically yes, but it plays like crap, and people shouldn’t buy a computer with the intel chipset thinking that they can play these games. But many good older games work just fine.
February 25th, 2010 at 2:56 am
OK, left 4 dead 2 benchmarks with the following setup
Intel core 2 duo 2.2 ghz
4 GB ram ddr-3
Intel graphics media accelerator 4500mhd
Windows 7
Left 4 Dead 2 level dead center from start until first safe room (hotel) single player campaign. 7 time runs. The results (in frames per second) All settings set to low except pool memory. All options disabled.
1st run: min. 6 max. 35 avg. 17.833
2nd run: min. 8 max. 30 avg. 19.733
3rd run: min. 8 max. 27 avg. 16.933
4th run: min. 8 max. 42 avg. 17.567
5th run: min. 6 max. 34 avg. 16.067
6th run: min. 3 max. 33 avg. 14.983
7th run: min. 4 max. 27 avg. 12.683
And this is a mostly inside level.
February 27th, 2010 at 12:01 pm
How about Borderlands on Intel GMA 4500m?
February 27th, 2010 at 11:46 pm
I dont know why everyone says that left4dead and MW2 and even L4D2 are not playable I played all those games on my laptop that has a 4500MHD card (Dell latitude E6400) and it ran extremely good..no lag at all..
for me it ran all games I tried …and all on 1024X786 on all High settings..

Hi, i was wondering that if purchaced this laptop (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/179792) with the chip set, if it would be possible to buy a grapics card for the laptop as an extra and if so would there be any particular requirement of the card needed..?
Thanks

Great Review….
Looking at this laptop which has
HP ProBook 4510s FM848UT Notebook PC – Intel Core 2 Duo T6570 2.1GHz, 2GB DDR2, 250GB HDD, DVDRW, 15.6″ Display, Windows XP/Vista Business, which has the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD.
Might hold out for better graphics, but for $650 not a bad laptop deal:

March 5th, 2010 at 6:31 pm
It is honestly a very close call. Both of the computers have enough power to play the games in question, but you will not get a lot out of them graphically. Its hard to say for sure and others may disagree with me, but given the 512mb of dedicated memory I think the NVIDIA 310m has the edge. My 210m will play COD just fine on medium/lowish settings. The newer 310s are essentially the same with slightly higher clocks.
Unless you are specifically limited to these two notebooks, I would consider the purchase of other more capable notebooks in the same price range. There are several that coming out in the next few months that would be better suited for the type of computer you are looking to buy.
March 6th, 2010 at 12:35 am
I am quite dismayed that my new comp which is to be part of a racing sim set up is strangled by this GMA X4500HD integrated video.
I have the following set up in an all-in-one touch screen 23″ HD Machine
Intel® Core™2 Quad Processor Q8200S (2.33GHz, 4MB L2 Cache, 1333MHz FSB)
8192MB DDR3 Dual-Channel 1333MHz Memory
1TB SATA hard drive (Green Product – variable RPM)
64GB SSD Drive for operating system
Running Window 7 Home Premium 64bit.
I have spent a fortune getting the top of the line Steering, shifter and pedal set up, a Playseats Evo RaceRoom sim, plus full Replica Race Gear.- I was planning to have the 23″ HD screen mounted just ahead of the stearing set up. I was also looking at a Leo Bodnar Race Data Display.
So….are my dreams smushed?? I got suckered by the almighty “HD” and thought I couldnt go wrong.
I have purchased the most common games that I saw discussed in Racing Sim Forums.
I have not set everything up yet as I only want to go through the wiring routing once.
What about a secondary External Gaming Video card? I have seen many articles about this being a big plus for Laptop owners who need more graphics power- but most of them seem to be from 2007-2009 and I dont see a bunch of external cards advertized anywhere.
So whats the prognosis….has lack of knowledge led me down a very pricey path?
Thank you
David

Unfortunately, it does not appear that you are in the best of conditions. I can only assume it would be too late to return your computer? You can build yourself a very respectable machine for what I imagine you paid for that. Can you perhaps provide the manufacturer of your computer? Many times these computers come in multiple configurations and in rare cases parts can easily be swapped out or added. This is rare, so don’t get your hopes up. As for the external card, it is very much a possibility assuming your computer as the appropriate slot to handle it. You need an express 34 slot available if I recall correctly, or at the very least a miniPCI-e. Again I could tell you more if knew your computers exact make. Essentially these external card will boost the performance of your machine, but only at a small margin of the cards power. In other words it would not be wise to buy anything more powerful than 9600 GSO as even in the case of this card the majority of it power will go unused. The reason for this is that the amount of data being communicated is not meant to travel over the type of cable and interface these rigs use, so again you will hit another bottleneck.
March 9th, 2010 at 12:16 am
It is a Gateway all in oneZX6800-03…when I got it a bit before Christmas these were as commom as Hen’s teeth, and just getting ahold of one I thought I was doing great- I knew what my Racing sim would be like and this would give it ultra clean lines. But here rears the integrated video head ( you’d think I would have learned on my Inspiron E1705 that I’m writing this on)
I dont know how much of a difference it makes but it is not the same card that you tested that I have you notice it is X4500HD- this is supposed to be a true high def card and hopefully the X has some supercomputer meaning…like “X”-tra good at racing games….huh?…dont laugh…my ego is fragile enough as it is with this purchase….cant even call it Hal anymore as it is no longer maxed out in all areas- should have gone for a tower I guess- but this seemed sooo good
March 10th, 2010 at 1:28 am
I would never laugh. The reason we write articles like this is to help people in your situation. Perhaps it is to little to late in your case.
Unfortunately I looked into this computer. There are not a lot of details but there are no other configurations with better GPUs, which means your stuck. Adding an external gpu would mean having to buy a new monitor if it even has an express 16 slot inside of it. Sorry to break this to you.

Hi i was looking into getting a faster laptop than my current PC which is only a 1Gb but plays most of mgames alright i just have a problem with world of warcraft. I found this laptop but i don’t have a clue about the graphics involved and my boyfriend says i need to make sure that they will work.,
Acer Aspire 5732Z it has 4Gb RAM 500G hard drive and seems ideal but i have to make sure wow wold work before i buy it. Any help here?
March 10th, 2010 at 10:01 am
thx howley, that reply of yours really helps. Actually those two laptops are some of the laptops offered by my school. That fujitsu lh700p is available at 1.1k and the lenovo thinkpad r400 at 1.4k.
Other than those two i also picked out two other laptops:
1. Fujitsu LifeBook LH700HP (Pink)LH700HW(White) at 1.7k
Intel Core i7-620M Processor (2.66GHz 3MB cache,1066Mhz FSB)/RAM 4GB DDR3/NVIDIA GeForce 310M with dedicated video memory of 512MB
2. Lenovo ThinkPad T410(Black) at 1.6k
Intel® Core™i5-540M, 2.53GHz,up to 3.06 with Turbo Boost/RAM 4GB DDR3/NVIDIA® Quadro® NVS 3100M 256MB DDR3 Graphics
I hope to hear your opinion on this and whether which of these 4 has a better value of buying because i totally have no idea which to get.
hope to hear from you soon and thx again!

Hi Lee,
Thank you for following up with me- I have actually seen one of these listed with a separate Game card in it- unfortunately I didnt take any notice at the time of the brand or model- or indeed where I found it, I will see if I come across it again in my travels and report back. In the mean time I am going to write to Gateway and have a fit…
Thank you
David

At the site it says certain of the ZX series have ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 4670 graphics card with 1GB DDR3 RAM. I dont know if this can be put into my machine ( it seems like it was the lower grade models that you could get this, but the higher grade they seemed to think was sufficient with all the set-up components together.
Not sure what to do now….maybe pout a bit and stomp my feet?

hey i have an hp dv4 with intel graphics 4500hd with 1695 vm and direct 10x support can it support sims 3
and can i still play sims 2
March 12th, 2010 at 6:44 am
David,
It’s worth a call to the company if you have put that much work into it your rig. The extra performance you would get from a 4670, which is also benchmarked on our site here is beyond a considerable amount. That said I don’t think you be able to accomplish anything for free. I just wish companies would stop trying to pass of any form of intel graphics as gaming capable, they simply are not. They are capable of supporting everyday needs of direct x 10 applications and thats it. You may be able to argue with them enough that your computer is ‘defective’ and unable to perform the tasks that it was advertised to do and get it exchanged, but that would be some hard work. I wish I could help you more. If its any conciliation I could certainly point you in the direction of a cheap rig that would let you play your games and or help you build one. Building a computer is a very rewarding, surprisingly simple task that is a often more affordable solution.
Randee,
The intel gpu will certainly play sims2. However, sims3 is not going to run well, but it will run. The minimum system requirements indicate that the card is fast enough, but your probably going to have turn down all of the graphics settings.

….Now this is a bit embarrassing….but REALLY awesome! I had listed my comp as a ZX6800-03 as this was the only one on Gateway that was listed with the stats that I KNEW my comp had. However something was niggling at me- I was sure that it was a ZX6810 23″ that I had bought- it was on Amazon for a couple of days then disappeared and was not listed on Gateway’s site. Tonight I was getting data to send a report to Gateway per your suggestion…it did indeed say ZX6810 by the serial number. If a specific search is done for 6810 on Gateways site it does give some info- I thought…whats the chance that this model has the best of both- all the top stats of the model I thought I had, but with a video card….Well…I’m the proud owner ( I hope) of a ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4670 with 1Gig dedicated memory and up to 4 gigs shared for gaming!
My Racing Sim dreams are rising like a Phoenix from the ashes
So…am I good now Lee?…say yes….for the love of God say yes!

This test does not give a fair analysis of the 4500MHD because the system only had 2 GB of RAM and Pentium T3200. Anything will run slow on a Pentium; the T3200 is a low-end CPU for budget computers that are less than $500. I personally use this card on my machine that has a Core 2 Duo T6500 with 4GB RAM, and it runs games quite well. Newer games need to have settings turned all the way down, but my gaming experience is very fluid on Madden 08, NHL 07, MVP Baseball 2005 (with mods), Battle for Middle Earth, and Return of the King. I can play LOTR: Conquest with all settings low and get around 15 FPS average; not enough for hard core gamers, but Conquest has higher requirements than the games that were tested here. I get low 20s on average with MLB 2k9. So, the 4500MHD is actually not quite as bad as shown here…if you use a good CPU and enough RAM.
March 13th, 2010 at 1:25 pm
hey Im about to purchase a laptop for college. It will most likely have the 4500MHD accelerator with 4gb of memory. Im looking at getting 64bit windows, does it matter if i get 64 or 32 bit?
March 13th, 2010 at 5:57 pm
Dear piratesmvp04,
I think that it is covered in several places on the entire thread, that the 4500MHD will work on the low setting as you describe for quite a few games; its just that it cant give you the gaming experience of more capable cards. It was also mentioned that having a higher grade set-up with this GPU would also help to get some games that otherwise wouldnt play, to give you some gaming action.
…but what do I know…for most of the thread I was in dismayed belief that I had the 4500XHD version of this GPU and only found out last night that I didnt ( for a new machine I purchased for a Racing sim that hasnt been put together yet)
Hope this helps

I dont know if I put the link in the wrong place, but nothing has shown up so I will try again. This is a product I was looking at when I thought I had the integrated graphics card. This will allow those of you who have the issue with the card letting down an otherwise good system, and restricting your game playing abilities.
He is a link to the product.

David, I am sorry for the long laps in my response. If you do in fact have a 4670, you will be happy to know that that card in particular will handle most games just fine. Only in rare cases such as Crysis or Shattered Horizons will the card not perform moderately well.
We actually rather liked the card when we benchmarked it. http://pcgamingcorner.com/wordpress/?p=630
Here its again, compared to the competition.
http://pcgamingcorner.com/wordpress/?p=420
So if you have this card and are still experiencing problems, it may be a driver issue or that you have the game settings to high. This card is great, but it dose not have the face melting power of a 5870 or GTX series card.
R Freg,
I would recommend 64bit. It will allow you to use all of the RAM in your computer. You may run into some problems with older applications, but this is rare. 64bit will serve you better.
piratesmvp04,
Yes the Intel HD series chipsets will provide 15-20 fps in a lot of games. For some people this is enough, but for most it isn’t and never will be. The simple fact is is that it looks crappy and there is some very obvious lag in the experience. We are trying to do our best to make sure everyone who buys a computer with this card understands that. There is nothing worse than spending a couple hundred or thousand dollars to be sorely disappointed.

I have a Sony VGN-NW265F laptop, but Counter-Strike 1.6 doesn’t have consistent frames per second. It jumps from 15FPS to 60FPS constantly. It is pretty much unplayable. I’m using OpenGL and everything is on “application setting” with the latest Intel 2086 drivers.
Counter Strike: Source, however, is playable and I get mostly around 40-60FPS. This is probably due to the more efficient graphics engine in Source.
Is there a solution for Counter-Strike 1.6? I just need consistent 60FPS for CS 1.6 to be playable. Thanks.

Hello
I’m going to buy a laptop with the following configuration:
- I3-350
- Intel® HD Graphics
I need to know if that’s enough for watching HD movies with an external monitor. Intel say it’s enough even to play. But I just need to watch video HD. Does this suffice?
Thanks

I have an acer 5735 with a dual core processor and built in 4500 graphics. I can play Halo 2, dragon age, oblivion etc. Halo 2 and oblivion on medium settings, and dragon age on low. Even though it’s on low I still get to play the game.
April 5th, 2010 at 11:15 am
Will the graphics card support the game RollerCoaster Tycoon 3?????
April 5th, 2010 at 5:31 pm
Windows 7
2.2Ghz Duo Core
4 GB ram
intel GMA 4500mhd
1.7 GB Vid Ram
Games that I can play:
FPS VARIES DEPENDING ON SITUATIONS SUCH AS FLASHES/FIREFIGHTS/SMOKE/MOVEMENT/GUNFIRE/LOCATION
but other than that, it runs fine/playable
Borderlands (25-35 low)
Counter Strike Source/Day of Defeat Source. (30-60 fps max settings)
Dead Space (15-31 low)
Devil May Cry 3 & 4 (25-40 low-med)
Halo 2 (20-40 low-med)
Left 4 Dead 1 (15-25 low)
Rainbow 6 Vegas 1 & 2 (20-50 low)
Resident Evil 5 (15-30 low) Benchmark test shows 1-5, but i REALLY doubt that…
Games attempted but unrecommended:
Battlefield: Bad Company 2
– Graphics are VERRRYYY similar to RE5, but it runs at less than 10 and in slow-motion
Mass Effect 1
– Game could run but found a txt file in game folder stating theres a protection on it
preventing from using GMA chips
—-
Overall, this chip can handle games that require a Nvidia 6800 series or lower, but some higher games with 7 or 8 series CAN run on low, but semi playable.
April 7th, 2010 at 2:22 pm
Just recently modded the settings.ini file for Bad Company 2. Managed to bump of game to roughly 15-20ish frames per sec.
April 8th, 2010 at 6:18 pm
Nader had it right, and this article is all wrong.
The GL40 chipset has a 4500M , not the 4500MHD. See the specs from Intel:
http://www.intel.com/Assets/PDF/prodbrief/319505.pdf
See page 3. GL40 only comes with the 4500M.
GPU-Z has the facts wrong, which were repeated in error for this article.
All benchmarks are really for a 4500M.

Can I run battlefield 2 in a LAN environment with all of the graphics setting on high? How much drop in framerate, if any, would I experience? can’t find this info anywhere else please help
May 14th, 2010 at 12:35 pm
Landon – sorry, a game that requires a GeForce 7800GT video card is not going to be playable on a GMA 4500MHD, sorry. You cannot upgrade your video card either – you have to buy a new notebook if you want to do that kind of 3D gaming.
chf23 – yes definitely, the GT 240M is a very good video card. You can play COD 6 without any problems.
man91 – yes the GMA 4500MHD supports T&L
Gmaer – sorry, the GMA 4500MHD is not good enough to play COD 5 or 6. The best FPS that is playable on the GMA 4500MHD is Counter-Strike: Source.
Gamer – the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4530 is much better than the GMA 4500MHD. However it is still a low-end card. What kind of games do you want to play?
Ty – Battlefield 2 is a tough call, somehow I doubt you will be able to play it above low settings. High settings are definitely out of the question.
May 14th, 2010 at 12:47 pm
There is a very good deal in the dell shop now, includes this gaming card, but, is it up to date?
can I play modern warefare 2 and battlefield bad compagny 2???
please tell me,
thanks!
May 14th, 2010 at 2:34 pm
Remavic – the GMA 4500MHD will not play Battlefield: Bad Company 2, sorry.
Look for a notebook with an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650, 4670, 5650, 5730, or higher. Nvidia GeForce GT 240M, 260M, 330M, 360M would also work.
May 14th, 2010 at 4:45 pm
Check that its a Intel mobile series 4 chipset family don’t know nearly as much about this one as the gma 4500 MHD found a lot of hits for it and not a lot of info…..Ran the “Can You Run It” compatibility test and the strangest thing happened……All of the hardware and software requirements are passed with flying colors (128 Mb of video ram required, which is a joke to begin with for a game as sophisticated as bf2, and I have 796 mb of video ram, pixel and vertex shader 4.0, 2.0 is the requirement, and 3d capabilities of course…..Perhaps it had dificulty identifying the particular model so it failed? Someone please help this diagnostic also failed on Age of Empires 3, which I run with barely any drop in framerate on the highest graphics settings…Is the outcome of this test a graphics card compatibility problem or a CPU clocks speed problem (2.16 ghz) I have 2 gigs of RAM…..My cousin, who also ran the same test has an AMD Athlon XP with speeds of only 1.6 ghz and three gb of RAM and his passed easily….HELP
May 15th, 2010 at 1:16 pm
Somebody please help me out I just need to know if bf2 will perform at all with this card I’m not a glutton for eye popping graphics (even though they do help) as long as they aren’t as choppy on low as its predecessor, battlefield 1942….Lord the textures were ugly haha
May 15th, 2010 at 9:01 pm
I was skimming through and trying to see if anyone mentioned the sims 2. My friend upgraded to the sims 3 and let me have his sims 2 plus a couple of expansion packs. I was wondering if I would be able to play them on my lap top. Thanks.
I have a Hp G60-440US
OS: Vista (service pack 2)
processor: Pentium processor T4300
speed: 2.10 GHZ
Graphics card: Intel Graphics media accelerator 4500M with up to 1309MB shared
hard drive: 320GB (5400RPM) Hard Drive
I also found out that my new computer has the worst gaming graphics card ever T.T. I know sims 3 is simply out of the question but what about the sims 2?
May 15th, 2010 at 9:04 pm
Oh I also forgot to mention that I have a 32-bit OS as well…
May 16th, 2010 at 8:09 am
I’m no expert on this kinda stuff…But I’m pretty sure a machine like that won’t have a problem running a low-demanding game like the sims 2
May 17th, 2010 at 11:29 pm

would i able to play gta 4 with Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD.
May 18th, 2010 at 2:03 pm
@ harshit: Sorry bro definitely not
May 18th, 2010 at 3:22 pm
Harshit: But don’t underestimate the strengh of the 4500MHD, even though it is extremely low end, and I would not by any means recommend this card for someone who utilizes their machine solely for gaming, it is capable of running fairly decent games. In my mind, the era of the PC gamer has just about passed and consoles have taken over, which is a cryin shame because their are so many great pc games out there. However, as you know, a fairly fast pc is faster than this generations consoles, and as of about five years ago, pc’s are were MUCH faster than consoles and were above them on the gaming food chain. Some quality pc games that don’t require a super fast graphics card have been released since the dawn 2000. Some games that I would recommend to you for your graphics card, and I will provide a brief description, are:
The Great Escape: If you’ve seen the movie, great, but if not, This one follows the escape of a crewmember of an American bomber that was shot down in WWII from a prison camp. Basically WWII splinter cell without as much gear. The “bordering on idiotic” AI produces some pretty funny moments
Battlefield 1942: I’m sure your familiar with this one, if not, look it up
Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast: Upon recieving this game, and trust me, I HATE almost every star wars game ever released, i quickly changed my opinion. This one is a must play and probably the greatest star wars game ever release
Counter Strike: Source: Play this on the weekends with my cousin, uncle, and some friends. As mentioned a while back on this thread “Best LAN party ever”
Solitare: Hahahaha just playin
Call of Duty 2: It can also play the third installment of the series, but I won’t include it in the list, because, well, to be honest, its garbage
Those are only a few of the games the 4500MHD can run. I can’t stress to you how underestimated these graphics cards are. People say “Oh this game can barely run minesweeper” Thats a load of bs to be honest. No offense to Charles P. or Lee, they’ve been doing a great job keeping this thread going, however, the GMA 4500HD will run just fine on normal settings for most games up to 05 or 06. as for GTA 4…..er……no. The enviromnent is too big and draw distances are too high. Now I’m no expert on this subject, leave that to CPJ and Lee, however, I do know that you are able to run some fairly demanding games as long as you have the processing speed and RAM to back it up. With that said, please people quit asking “Can I play MW2 or Left for Dead 2 or NFS: Shfit with a 1.4 ghz processor, 2 gb of RAM, and the GMA 4500MHD?” No, you can’t. Computers are cold, logical, devices, not miracle workers. Hope that answers some questions for future reference.
May 19th, 2010 at 1:30 pm
i have Intel core duo 2,operating system xp 7,2 GB ram and 320 hard disk.what are games i can play with this please give me list
May 19th, 2010 at 3:41 pm
Assuming that you have the GMA 4500MHD, you should be able to play all of the games I listed above your comment easily, and if you upgraded your memory to..say, 3 or 4 GB then you could play even more recent games. As for a list, well, what kind of games are you interested in? RPG, Racing, Shooters?
May 21st, 2010 at 2:04 am

Hi, I have acer 5738 with g4500 mhd. could i play bad company 2, medal of honour airborne and COD4 or which is more suitable for me. also in what conditions maya software runs and which virsion is well executable. I have never tried any of this yet as i scare of crashing down my laptop by doing so.
May 24th, 2010 at 3:03 pm
All this is crap! Using gma4500mhd (latest driver) i can even play Assassin’s creed II and Bioshock 2 on low settings with about 20-25 fps
May 24th, 2010 at 3:06 pm
Anyway, undercover or L4D plays fine with no lag on medium settings
May 24th, 2010 at 3:10 pm
I even ***Bravely*** tried crysis. But it was hopeless

I have a Laptop with GMA 4500MHD
Want to buy Pro Cycling manager 2009, but the minimum requirements show the following:
Video card memory: NVIDIA GEFORCEFX 5900/ATI RADEON 9600
Will it be possible for me to play this game on my Laptop,(HP CQ61)?
Thank you.
June 29th, 2010 at 7:40 am
The GMA 4500MHD is not a suitable workstation graphics card. Ideally you should have an Nvidia Quadro or ATI FirePro video card, which are hard to find in notebooks.
Nvidia NVS cards will also work, check out Dell Latitude notebooks – some of those have NVS cards.

Tiaan – that’s a tough one. If the game requires a dedicated graphics card then I am very hesitant to say an integrated card will work. I’m going to say no in this case even though those cards are several years old. The 4500MHD is just not designed for gaming.

I have an
-HP G60-519WM Notebook
-Intel Celeron 900 (2.2GHz, 1MB cache, 800MHz FSB)
-Windows 7 Home Premium
-3072MB DDR2 System Memory
-250GB(5400rpm) Hard Drive
-Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500M with up to 1309MB total available memory
and was trying to play the first Starcraft and was not working. It was giving me an error of something about memory. Later bought the Sim City Society but luckily read the system requirements of having ATI and NVDIA, didnt even open the box returned it and got money refunded. I was wondering if this is supposed to be like this or is there something that I will need to download in order for Starcraft or any other games to work. I did try to resolve it by watching videos on youtube on people having the same problem but was not able to. I have downloaded the Direct X 10 and still nothing!!! I have lost hope in playing this game even the Sim City Societies. Is there a resolution to this, please please help!!!

I’m curious if you there are any display toolsets for things like multiple monitors, and calibration of them. We’re trying to find out if the card can emulate an ‘extended monitor’ with the menu bar across both screens, and not just ‘dual’ or ‘multiple’ monitors, where though you can move windows between more than one window, each window is seen as a seperate monitor. The difference is almost splitting hairs, except VMWare doesn’t support multiple monitors yet for guest machines, but you CAN stretch a single monitor across two monitors. Would this card do this, or does anyone know of any tools that can provide more functionality to this integrated card?
Thanks.

I’m thinking of ordering A Toshiba Satellite w/ 4GB RAM, dual-core pentium processor, and this apparently shoddy graphics card. My question would be is this card sufficient to play the game WolfTeam? The game recommends at least a GeForce 6800, and at minimum, a GeForce 5700. I’m guessing those requirements are based on a desktop computer.
One more question. I’ve had this computer for nearly 8 years, so it’s on its last legs. It’s running 504Mb RAM on a single-core processor, and has an Intel® 82865G Graphics Controller, so would the Intel GMA 4500 be an improvement?
